…your boys took a not very surprising beating!
Well played both teams, Academy playing their first game against adults, and many of them experiencing a crowd for the first time. Penn gave it a real good go after the break, they are a good team.
Over 1000 in the ground according to staff at the ground.
Good night out and good test for the youngsters. They stood up well to it and showed some very nice touches. Could’ve been a bit more trigger happy but when we were, a few balls left to collect in the fields behind. I was up the other end but some good banter being given by the Penn supporters behind the opposite goal. Hopefully all good natured and character building for the Wycombe goalie. Dan Rice was there, unless he has a doppelgänger.
Really enjoyable evening. The fact 1,237 turned up tonight vs 539 last night really tells a story. The introduction of u21 teams completely ruined the JPT or whatever it is called these days.
Great for Penn to have a big pay day, great for our academy boys to play in front of a packed crowd and great to see so many youngsters there enjoying the game tonight.
Penn gave a real good account of themselves and came into the game a lot more in the second half. Also a good payday for Penn & TG.
1200 wycombe fans watching a smaller team in Wycombe play wycombes under 21s
I hope today shows the club that they should be doing a local pre-season friendly every season & these clubs can handle it
Tonight’s other Second Round results.
Beaconsfield Town 6 - 1 Berks County (HT 3-0)
Burnham 5 - 2 Sandhurst Town (HT 2-0) Att. 54
First half Wycombe looked very comfortable on the ball. Looked like it could be 4 or 5. Penn better side in the 2nd half. Not sure what the penalty was given for but it made the game more interesting.
Bassega and Gregory look very good players. The keeper, although a little ill tempered (got in a scuffle and made gestures to fans abusing him), his distribution was better than I have ever seen compared to Norris or Van Sas. Honestly, one pass he played was WORLD class.
Credit to P & TG for the excellent organisation at the ground. A record crowd on a lovely evening to watch football. P & TG put in a heroic effort on the pitch & gained much admiration from the crowd. These games help to strengthen the ties between WW & local Non-League clubs. I hope the P & TG players & officials might get invited to a WW game over Christmas if they don’t have a fixture.
It was really good last night. I see a fair bit of football at the level Penn play and last night showed that we already have a very talented group of youngsters within our ranks, particularly based on the speed we played with and without the ball in the first 45 minutes.
Penn have joint managers in Johnny Sepede and James Pritchard and they have been heavily involved in local grassroots and amateur football over the past 30 years, both playing and coaching. So would have been a special night for those guys as well.
Luca Hughes, number 8, looks a cracking talent and he went off at half time. He picked up a knock after about 10 mins so I wonder if this is why he was subbed. We weren’t the same after he left the pitch.
eccentric keepers often turn out to be quality…think Barthez, Lehmann, Martinez etc
Ah Fabian Barthez - what a blast from the past. Probably wouldn’t even be considered for a GK role by most clubs’ junior programs these days as probably deemed too short.
Tbf our goalie was no hulking giant, especially compared to the Penn no. 1. But I can confirm he did indeed have an exceptional passing range.
Nah, he’d be well in demand these days. Great passer of the ball, one of the first “sweeper keepers”
Penn & Tyler’s Green have come a very long way since I was fortunate enough to have managed them to a Wycombe Senior Cup 4-2 victory against Rivets Sports in April 1983.
Goals from Nick Campbell (2), Bob Foster and Les Boon secured that win for Penn.
Now my granddaughter plays for their under 8 team.
Where did that time go ![]()
.
And Brian Lee presented us with the cup on that April day in 1983.
Jens Lehmann is a bit of a stretch to say he was “Quality”, he def wasn’t on the same leave as Barthez or Martinez
