Winslow are a strong physical team, without being “dirty”, and they like to play at a fast pace, get to ball up to the wingers early. They are missing important players, their latest was right back Jack Smith with a broken wrist on Saturday. The two key players are Aaron Smith, formerly their no. 9, who now sits at the base of midfield, an intelligent playmaker. The other is left winger Harry Scott, quick, skillful and a prolific scorer, 39 in 44 games last season. Five goals last Saturday. HT 1-1, Chairboys have been the better team, several chances, Olibiyi causing problems down the right. Winslow’s goal was their only real chance but they are competing well, I think they have another goal in them. ---

Thanks for all the info, @StevePeart. It was a really good game, with the Wanderers lads having to deal with a consistently physical approach from Winslow and a tolerant (but consistent) referee. I was impressed with the way the Wycombe lads stuck to their composed way of playing throughout and, aside from one momentary flare-up, didn’t get sucked into indiscipline themselves. Wanderers definitely had the better of the game and the chances, but as with the games we saw last season, struggled to take those chances when they arrived. I thought the whole team impressed, but that the lads who have made occasional first team appearances showed why. In particular, Gregory showed how he’s developing with regular men’s football at Slough, Keita looked good in defending against some meaty (and more than decent) Winslow attackers, but also carried and used the ball well, Olabiyi was a menace on both wings, scoring the first and making the third, and Gurpinar also impressed with pace and skill, notably making the first goal with a surge and first-time cross down the left which eventually fell to Olabiyi to convert. Not for the first time, Jackson King at right-back looked very good. McKoy was playing in the number 8 role and matched the physicality of the Winslow midfield. Prempeh-Murray also looked good in the no. 6 role, despite being slighter, playing the ball nicely (I think it was his run through midfield to the edge of the box that set up Stones’ chance for the goal) and getting stuck in in defence. And, in spite of one stray pass that could have been costly, Pettit looked good in goal, making a particularly good save at the feet of a Winslow attacker. A really promising performance all round.
