Your dream tie, @StevePeart !
And me, lived in Winslow from age 3 to 11, then Wycombe…
Correction, I meant 6th October!
Yes, I’ve been waiting 53 years to be able to have a short stroll to one of my team’s matches. I just hope common sense prevails and it doesn’t clash with Rovers. No mention of the tie yet from United. They have a lot of Step 4 building work to complete this season, so I hope they get a good gate.
Winslow think the match is on the same night as the Bristol Rovers game. No word from us on the date.
Good news, the B & B website shows the Winslow game has been moved to Wednesday 7th October. No word yet on match details from either club.
Tonight’s 2nd Round results.
Maidenhead United 4-1 Beaconsfield Town
Penn & Tylers Green 3-2 Didcot Town
Thatcham Town 0-3 Bracknell Town
Wantage Town 4-2 Milton Keynes Irish
Abingdon United 0-1 Windsor & Eton
Ascot United 3-1 Flackwell Heath
Amersham Town 0-4 Newport Pagnell Town
Holmer Green 3-3, 7-6 pens Chesham United
Slough Town 0-0, 1-4 pens Aylesbury United
Wokingham Town 1-1, 5-4 pens Marlow
Aylesbury Vale Dynamos 1-2 Sandhurst Town
Result of the night was Holmer Green’s penalties win against Chesham, after being 2-0 down at half-time. The winning penalty was the only time they were ahead in the game.
Tomorrow night.
Winslow United v Wycombe Wanderers
Burnham v Hungerford Town
Binfield v MK
Reading have a bye.
We’ve only played Winslow once before, in the B & B on Wednesday 11 January 1989. Winslow had been drawn at home but agreed to switch to Loakes Park. After 90 minutes the score was 1-1, John Kerr had put us ahead on 69’, Winslow equalised on 71’ through Clint Ledger, two minutes after coming on as a sub. Mark west scored the winner on 119’. Attendance was 554. Winslow’s Graham Freshwater had an outstanding game at left back, so much so that he was invited back to train with us and, I think, played at least one Capital League game. His son Ryan is the current Winslow captain, and has been playing for them for at least 15 years, man and boy.

If you are coming tonight, there are only one hundred seats and there is a small covered standing terrace. There is a bar and the burgers are good. Parking is tricky these days, double yellow lines have recently been painted outside the ground for the expected opening of the new East West railway station, which is not happening anytime soon! There is a free public car park opposite, which fills up quickly. There is another car park close by in Greyhound Lane, free after 7pm, again it fills up quickly. A short walk away to the north of the ground there is parking in residential roads. There is parking in the small town square. The ground attendance record was set at the end of last season, I think it was 1004 for the play-off final. I’m not sure that will be broken tonight. The pitch is in pretty good shape considering the drought, it has started turning brown again but today’s rain will help. It has a pretty smooth surface but is not up to Harlo/Marlow standards.
Admission prices at Winslow are Adults £10, 60+ £5, 12-17 £2.
Can’t make tonight but good luck to the young Chairs. Hopefully it’s a money maker and great occasion for Winslow.
Thanks I think I’ll try and head over to this one.
Can we pay cash on the gate?
I think so, card payments also taken. It’s not advance tickets only, if that’s what you mean.
I forgot to say there is parking on the adjacent cricket field, as long as today’s rain doesn’t scupper that.
Further details on parking tonight.
Thanks Steve
A superb game at Holmer Green last night, I managed to film the penalties.

Hoping that Wycombe get through and Holmer Green draw them at home. Have a go at breaking Holmer’s 800 attendance previously set for a 2008 centenary friendly against Wycombe.
Steve Peart is excited. Very excited.
Yes, cash or card. I will be there.
I’m in the unusual position of being pleased if my team get through, pleased if they don’t.
