Almost certainly a butterfly but not sure you should pinch its legs.

A butterfly indeed - a Red Admiral in fact, I believe.

Can’t remember the last time I saw one, hence my surprise in seeing it on my walk.

FYI It’s a knitted (by my sister) light/dark blue dog coat custom made for my little furball so no chance of pooping on the coat itself.

That’s a relief! Not least for the wee poodle.

Some more butterflies

Does anyone use the Merlin bird ID app? I like using around north London as I get plenty of parakeets.

    Choughs
    Crows
    Herring Gulls
    Wagtails
Jays (I have a pair that comes back most years to nest)
    Green Woodpeckers
  • on the river down the road

    Herons
    Kingfishers
    Rails
    Mute Swans
    Egrets
  • in the docks & seafront

The Merlin app is peak mid-life goodness. Fun on a walk around Black Park or similar spots.

Not my dog but it represents the spirit of watching Mike Dodds’ Wycombe Wanderers.
