He appears to be made of glass so if he is we are screwed. In any case you don’t win promotion with only 2 strikers on the books. Doesn’t happen.
where did you see this ? Dodds said 1 week and he has been transparent so far so surprised if he lied . we cannot rely on Udoh , top guy but simply not good enough to be out main striker
He hasn’t lied . QPR agreed a deal today . Dodd’s said what he did over the weekend . £2.75m rising to £5M with a 22.5% sell on clause . Good business considering one year left on his contract and only one season where he scored a load .
meant about Fink
I am also surprised they did not give him the pen.
The King had to pull himself away from an adoring crowd of youngsters before the second half on Saturday. Not many on the books that have his star power but I’m sure new heroes will emerge. Good luck to him in pastures new.
Scott Kashket probably had a better goals per game rate over two seasons and then he got injured and dropped right off, resulting in him dropping down Sutton. So considering Kone was never going to sign a new contract with less than a year left on his current contract I think we have done a great bit of business. How do we replace him I don’t know. Replacing the Kone post January is not hard.
I think it’s interesting how Wycombe have decided to ‘lower’ almost actively sell Kone over the last week. From reports, they have also been quite determined to get almost 3 million upfront. I wonder if this is because they have a deal lined up which has been dependent on Kone’s transfer going through. I think they are still light down the spine of the team and need another defensive midfielder, centre back and centre forward. I’m not concerned about him leaving. Kone is a fabulous player but he rarely played a full match. It does seem a little strange how we have let Hanlon and Lubala both leave as well without another CF other than Fink coming in.
It might have more to do with him not having signed the contract they have supposedly offered him. Can’t have him leaving for free.
Yep . No guarantee he was going to repeat the first half of last season’s form with us let alone a level up . I hope for him he does but from our point of view I think we have done very well indeed. Less than a year left on his contract now . Excellent bit of business .
12 signings so far and we’re still light? Jesus wept.
I remember when we barely had 12 players in total.
Don’t believe that’s the case. Wycombe played hard ball and now have their asking price of £5 million plus a hefty sell on.
I haven’t adored a player as much as Kone over his time with Wycombe. His story is far more deserving of a Hollywood script than some super rich movie men taking over a Welsh team. His attitude, humility and the joy on his face when he or one of his teammates scores a goal could warm even the coldest winter game at Adams Park.
However taking the blue tinted glasses off, if the finances that are being quoted are true, then we have an astonishing deal. He had an absolute purple patch for 25 or so games last season (which in all fairness is quite the purple patch) but other than that he has struggled a lot to find form, goals and ability to bully defenders. He doesn’t come with a pedigree in academy football to plump his value and so I think this is a massive risk for QPR.
I feel like we signed his replacement with Fink, who I’m hoping can get on the pitch quickly. We will probably need to sign a back up striker. I’d love us to look to the non leagues again and see if there is some more talent that we can nurture and develop.
If this is to be it - all the best Richard. Thanks for making the first half of last season feel like dreamland. Knock it out the park in the Championship
Yes, I remember those days too. However, I do think we are a bit light (in physicality)f we lost Udoh and Connor Taylor we’d be screwed at the moment. I’m also yet to see any of the players in the ilk of Scowen who have the tenacity and ability to win the ball and dominate the midfield. We have signed 12 players but we’ve let a fair few go too.
And I think more will be leaving too
Just wondering, how can QPR afford it? I thought they were still paying off their FFP fine, plus the cost of a new training ground, they haven’t been known to splash the cash
@Loakes , It was less what you were saying and more a damning indictment on the transfer policy and signings thus far if we have signed 12 this window (on top of those in Jan) and we’re STILL light in areas.
Especially when you consider we were a top of League one team Less than 9 months ago.
I’ve been less critical of Dan and his approach to the transfer market than many. But you can kinda see they have a massive point.
From his very first appearance for us Richard Kone clearly had something special about him and his purple patch wasn’t a fluke.
He was raw but nurtured sensitively and bloomed gloriously.
We were blessed (not a word i like to use but apt I think here) to see him in the quarters for that wonderful spell last autumn.
I genuinely hope he continues to give joy to football fans, wherever he plays.
Except for the fact we haven’t got a striker, good move for everyone…though I do feel it’s a big move up for the King quite early.
Fingers crossed for him.
Can anyone explain to this thicko what add-ons specifically mean? The figure mentioned is £5m but we only get £2.75m now. So my qn is are the add-ons achievement-dependant (playing x games, scoring x goals, winning x international caps etc) or is it that the additional payments taking it to £5m are guaranteed but just spread out over time? I get the sell-on bit, just not the add-ons…
