I gave a sympathy vote to Norris who, despite playing pinball wizard with everything at waist height, decided to kick the ball to players wearing a Wycombe Wanderers kit for once.
Leahy did really well constraining Campbell and plays with much more energy at left back then he manages in midfield.
I saw him kick, and even throw straight to the opposition on at least 3 occasions
Voting for Grimmer is wild. His efforts are never in doubt and defensively he’s fine, but his last two games have been generally woeful. His forward passing is wayward at best and he frequently loses possession in dangerous positions.
Why we didn’t bring a new first choice RB in the mould of Harvey on the left remains baffling.
Norris seemed to have poppadom hands yesterday. He’s head and shoulders above Franco (litterally) when it comes to commanding his area but otherwise I just don’t seem him as an upgrade.
Our CBs and Leahy were our best players yesterday, which given the way we dominated the first half is a bit depressing.
Overall I left the ground yesterday feeling furious. On Tuesday I put the result more with the players and their terrible finishing. Yesterday was different, we had lots of shots but most were tame efforts in a packed box. We’re too slow to break and have removed all danger from the wide positions. That firmly sits with Dodds and how he’s setting the team up and the personnel he’s choosing.
Good cross from Grimmer though in the second half to Kone, who nodded it on to McCleary for one of our few really good chances.
Oddly - we did sign a right back that from his one appearance this season, I thought look VERY good. Not seen or heard about him since. Bring back Finn Back!
Jesus wept we’ve got more than 40 players. Is the answer to any draw or defeat that we should have signed even more??
We’ve already got three right backs and various others who could do a shift there.
Whilst true, it was commented that he wasn’t intended to be thrown in so early.
At this point any semblance between form, quality and actually being picked seems more coincidence than tactic.
I believe Back actually picked up an injury that left him unavailable for six weeks. Mind you we’re screaming for width and a now fit Sadlier is seemingly nowhere near the squad. Make of that what you will.
More? Absolutely not.
The right ones to begin with? Absolutely, yes.
In Jan we needed a Morley replacement, a starting right back, a central attacking MF and an out and out CF (the latter two as competition for Humpreys & Kone). I’d argue we only got one of those, and Simons is no Morley (at the moment anyway).
