Still think we’re lacking the pivoting playmaker to make this new system work. Boyd Munce looks like a plausible back-up but lacks the panache and vision that we require. Both him and Abbott are decent replacements for Scowen but so far no-one has come in who can play the six role that we really need to link defence with attack.
We absolutely need to sign another striker. Udoh was fine but again feels like he’s competent rather than exceptional. We need exceptional - and we can’t just wait / rely on Fink.
Still think we need to be playing Fin Back on the right and Harvie on the left. It’s time to move Grimmer into a central three. Hagelskaer was better than I thought he’d be and could work nicely in a three alongside Allen and Grimmer.
Playing Fin Back on the right allows us to play Quitirna ahead of him. He should be starting every match as far as I’m concerned. It’s the natural mirror to the Harvie / Lowry combination which was purring away for much of the match.
Mullins I’m still not convinced by. I could be very wrong about this but there seemed a whiff of entitlement and petulance to his play which I think you would naturally develop as a lauded prospect in a Premier League youth team but you’d need to lose it pretty quickly to succeed in League One. Fingers crossed he does.
I’m happy for van Sas to make the odd mistake a match. It’s bad but still nowhere near as bad as Stryjek’s up at Barnsley. He’s an asset to the side and helps us play the right way. But he needs the players ahead of him to make it work. Let’s not forget under Bloomfield we would concede the odd goal but be confident of scoring more. That’s what we need to get back to. Van Sas is the right player for that system.
Obvious error for their goal. Individual errors but more team errors given the style if that makes any sense. I thought there was actually a good range of long and short passes today.
The only thing I think we missed today was a sub for Udoh. We need an alternative striker and that’s obvious especially with Fink out.
Actually I think , without the Van Sas error which is hard to accept even if you blame the system as much as the player, we were the better team.
Had we come away with a 1-0 victory Doncaster wouldn’t have been able to complain. Didn’t expect to be saying that!
And to emphasis how bad the referee was Wolves just had mandatory physio on the field for a head collision and the player had to then leave the field. Compare with Grimmer and then their players where no-one had to leave! Far angrier at the refs performance than ours today
Keepers thrive on confidence, as a fan base we need to get behind the goalie and not display any nervousness from the terrace. I thought a draw was about right on balance.
Alternatively we shouldn’t have thrown a rookie goalkeeper learning their trade in at the deep end in front of 20k at Valley Parade. Whose fault is that? Oh yeah, the manager again.
