Match Day Thread: Doncaster 16th Aug 2025

I liked both Dodds & Grimmers post match interviews, Dodds was clearly pissed off with what he had seen & Grimmer was honest that what the team put out wasn’t acceptable

Could this be due to promises that have been made to certain players about their “playing time”? If some of the players coming in have been told that they’ll be involved for “X” about of games / minutes, has Dodds hands been tied that he needs to keep rotating?

Or could he just be trying to find a winning combination to then stick to?

I swear the last time I came across Billy Sharp he was a niggly little striker playing for Everpool against Roy Race’s Melchester.

He’s not changed. Still little, and still niggly.

I thinknAllen is first choice, but still working on his partner, likely Taylor but his injury didn’t help. I think Anders isnt a bad player though

Anders prob got the nod today because of his performance on Tuesday.

Dave Challinor is not very happy either. This post-match interview is fantastic. Imagine having a manager who sets standards like this.

Say what you will about Leahy, but he’s certainly stepped up a level… in ranting and moaning on the pitch this season

I didn’t see the match today, but very surprised at Dodds as basically all of the performances last season deserved that reaction but were excused.

How bad were we today?

Or is he just under pressure after the shit (that he didn’t mind) of the first two games?

Van sas is young and still learning…. He can’t be fully blamed for that instance as the passage of play was wreckless.

I like Van sas from what I’ve seen of him. I genuinely believe he has the potential to be an all time great for us.

I’d have him ahead of Norris any day

Might have seen the last of Dan Casey then. Albeit sad as that is on a human level, that’d probably for the best from what I’ve seen of him.

Whats this? What have I missed?

To be honest I didnt think we were that bad, but he was right to call out the lack of commitment in getting to the second ball, the turgid build up play caused by dwelling on the ball too long, the lack of bravery with our passing - i.e opting for the low risk sideways pass too often etc.

When we did show some oomph & speed of thought/feet/passing we exposed them

we weren’t very good which isn’t the same as being bad.

So wjy is he raging at us being not very good when we’ve frequently been very bad under him?

i watched a few of his interviews when he was Sunderland manager and eventually his patience snapped and he threw the players under the bus. i was expecting this interview next Saturday.

I’m very encouraged to hear MD’s postgame assessment. Not only because it shows another side of him, but also because our players have been allowed to play that way for too long.

I still don’t think Dodds is the naswer, but it’s nice to hear some fight.

Seemed like the worst display of the season for playing ourselves into trouble under no pressure. (Outside of Norris doing some mad stuff in midweek).

But aside from that the pressure must be ramping up. Little poor Wycombe has long gone, and if you’re suddenly mashing out insane sums like 500k for a centre back and still only winning one game every 4-5 games or so, eventually there will be some scrutiny from above, let alone the fans.

Hopefully getting the point will help get us going a bit.

Thought it was a dull game, but we deserved a point as didn’t think Doncaster were any better.

Lack of chances we are creating is a real problem, but thought the goal was a great move so that’s something to cling to.

Dodds was about to bring on Junior, Fred and Abbott before they scored, which also taking as a postive in terms of trying to show attacking intent.

Error aside I like the look of Van Sas, nice to see Anders getting a chance & loved Junior’s performance from bench.

Pleased Brandon got plenty of applause from the travelling fans when he came on too.

While we’re all frustrated, we have to see how it looks when everyone is fit and he can field Fink for one.

He might well be the key who makes it all happen.

He needs to be for that fee. But then we thought that for the Danes too. And while we’re all delighted they’re in and around the pitch this season, only someone exceptionally positive could say either are doing more than holding their own so far or are particularly game changing players in this league.
