Match Day Thread: Northampton 2nd Dec 2025 (EFL Trophy)

He’s also made some superb calls, especially with Duff and we are now seeing some average looking players realise the potential under him.

Since Rice took over he has paid fees for 14 players

  1. Dan Harvie
  2. Shamal George
  3. Ryan Cole (Lets exclude him due to age)
  4. Anders Hagelskjaer
  5. Magnus Westergaard
  6. Alex Lowry
  7. James Berry
  8. Junior Quitirna
  9. Taylor Allen
  10. Bradley Fink
  11. Mikki Van Sas
  12. Ewan Henderson
  13. Jamie Mullins
  14. Connor Taylor

If all our players were fit I could only see four of those 13 making the starting 11 being Anders, Harvie, Henderson and Mullins.

That leaves 9 players who have either left already on loan or have not achieved what we would have hoped for.

The signings of four loan players on deadline day, September 1st tells you lots about the recruitment and it’s failures.

I’d like to finish on a positive note though. I absolutely love Harvie and Henderson, so hats off to Dan Rice for those signings.

Was that really 50 years ago….??

I wonder what we were watching in 1976 that made us say “wow, was that really 50 years ago?” Laurel and Hardy…?

If all our players are fit, Mullins wouldn’t start. So 3/13.

Dan Harvie was signed during the Scott Mitchell era mere weeks after Dan Rice began his role so his inclusion in the list is questionable.

Dan signed the cheque so he’s in.

Beautiful. Thanks for letting me know. I can book my train now.

You obviously haven’t watched Henderson play.

Obviously haven’t watched him

In 1976, 50 years ago would’ve been the battle of the Somme
That’s scary

My grandfather fought in the Somme. i used to say to him ‘granddad, tell me about what you did in 1926’ and he would just stare at me.

Probably still too traumatized to talk about it.

(1916)

It’s inconceivable really to think about what that generation witnessed and experienced, and the one that followed a couple of decades later.

My own grandfather visited Germany years later in his retirement. There he met men of his own age and the bond that existed between them was incredible. They were just young men, boys really, sent off to experience things that no one should ever go through.

I always find the quiet dignity of these veterans around Remembrance Sunday very moving. A real contrast to the mouthy alt-right “celebrities” whipping up hatred these days who literally aren’t fit to lace their boots.

I assume that’s just a mathematical error rather than poor historical knowledge.

If anyone needs to refresh themselves ….

My Grandad was injured at Ypres, or wipers as the Tommies called it. When he was repatriated they asked him where he was from. When he said Wycombe, they thought he said Wigan and he ended up being shipped to northern England. Luckily he made it back home, or I’d probably be a Latics fan now. He was always a Wycombe fan, and years later around 1972, I watched my first Wycombe game from his hospital room as he was passing away. Cheers Grandad.

Just forgot to mention him as a successful signing then.

Ok delayed response but here’s my tuppence worth. I hadnt watched the game due to illness but have had a look and I feel whatever happened on Tues night has more to do with what they had been instructed to do by this new set pieces coach. This just didn’t look right at all. Something was amiss. I do not feel this could be blamed on any particular player there was something completely amiss with all of them. So we move on.

So to Fink, I have a bit of a passion for BVB and how the way they churn out superstar players . Fink signed with them at 16 and was training with the likes of Halland and Bellingham amongst others. They highly rated him and didn’t want to let him go. BVB rumour was he was impatient to get into first team at 19 /20 and wanted to get nearer home. BVB had a buy back clause and tried to get him back before we got him for in the Summer for their under 23s squad. This is of course rumour on the German fan pages.

He is an absolute true 9 striker and this may be why we have not yet seen what this lad is capable of. Dig down the rabbit hole its there to find. There is plenty of footage of him playing under 21s at BVB . Which would actually be equivalent standard to our league.

I feel he was a very shrewd move by Rice and if we finish the development and start playing a 9 role up front we could be on a gold mine here . Just my thoughts on the matter

Absolutely ridiculous to write off Fink. He’s far from the finished article and we’ll have to be patient, but the signs are there.

BVB ? At least spell it out and put the initials in brackets when you first mention it. I wasn’t interested enough to look it up, I’m afraid, but I think you’re probably right about his potential. Certainly hope so.
