Match Day Thread: Northampton 2nd Dec 2025 (EFL Trophy)

A lot of toys out of the pram. We are allowed to play badly, especially when it’s our second string and academy lad against most of their starting regulars.

Can Duff get a tune out of this lot 2nd half ? Good test to see what we can do when behind.

1st half , National league South standard.

A few players need to put in a performance if they want to continue their Wycombe careers much into the New Year.

He doesn’t seem to want to put any effort in.

I watched the last 30 minutes of that but can someone tell me if Huggins and Westergard are actually playing because I’ve not noticed them?

Don’t think it’s a lack of effort, but the balls to him are just hopeful punts over the top and he’s looking more isolated than my nan in covid

Poor half that. We’re better than that, so very disappointing.

I’ve really liked the look of Gregory in previous matches, looks a very talented player, but he’s had a torrid time tonight. Don’t like to see young players hauled off at HT, but it might be necessary for his own good.

The rest of the side though, just strangely lethargic. Big 45 coming up. With the size of the squad, we should be progressing in this competition.

I have thought that before but he just seems so lethargic.

Defensively we have been poor tonight. They have been running at us and shooting / crossing at will without us getting a foot in. Been disappointed by Westergaard and Tilley both been somewhat lightweight with their players passing them by with ease.

Arthur Gregory probably shouldn’t have started against what I assume is essentially a League One first team.

Westergaard is another who just seems to go through a game trying to avoid the ball. He is simply not up to it at our level.

A great demonstration of why the temporary acquisitions of Bell and Woodrow have been so crucial to our recent successes.

Actually makes me very slightly more sympathetic to Mike Dodds, as this is pretty close to the typical line up he played based on the recruitment at the time and Duff is getting a similar tune out of them (complete with a van Saas blooper).

I’d be more understanding of our B-string playing as poorly as this, if they were all squad players cobbled together on free transfers. But we paid quite a lot of money for Fink, Westergaard and Taylor, and Huggins is on a Championship salary at someone’s expense, maybe ours.

Imagine what Gareth Ainsworth could have done with the money we’ve squandered on this lightweight bunch.

He just looks immobile for a young man im 29 and im faster than him at 22

I am 100% certain that this will be a game of two halves, possibly with a Fink equaliser being ruled out.

I’m 72 and I am quicker than him.

You don’t need a mobile striker. Years of Bayo should tell us that.

What you need is to get up and around him with support. Bayo wouldn’t have a quarter of the goals he got if we supported him the way we are with Fink.

LOLOL

He is certainly not to be compared to Bayo, more like Trevor Aylott in his later years.
