Match Day Thread : Reading

49 shots in 2 games and no goals. You have to feel for Dodds to a certain extent, how do you account for that?

Still arguing about the penalty?

Although saying that, we didn’t have many clear cut chances this afternoon

Unfortunately looked a pen in real time and on the replays

Genuinely baffling how under Dodds we cannot score…same players but we cannot hit the net…Reading were shit and concerning …early season we relied on goals getting out of trouble now we need a clean sheet not to lose

I missed the ’ clamouring’ for Lowry and Kodua. It was obviously quite understated.

All three early subs were dreadful. Kodua like a poor man’s Chem Campbell, Udoh just fouling everyone, Lowry utterly ineffective.

What makes it worse is the three he took off were playing well.

Confidence drained over the last few months with negative displays and now we can’t find a way to score when on top.

All the joy seems to have gone out of Kone’s game too. He seems so frustrated out there.

Hugely unfortunate to lose that. Reading barely created a chance in the whole 90mins and then were given a penalty. Poor decision, could see in the replay the Humphreys clearly won the ball. All that said, we’ve just not created enough going forwards, despite our dominance.

Promotion is probably gone, but we need a win asap to cement our play off spot and try and find some form. We’re playing ok, but ok is nowhere near good enough.

So its 1 goal in 3 games and that was thanks to the Lincoln defender shanking a clearance and we then scored the 1 on 1.

Stick a fork in me, I’m done.

Plenty of shots, very little quality. They’re all long range half chances because Dodds is so timid and leaves Kone completely isolated.

I really preferred sneaking a win to sneaking a loss.

Well we will have to go through the play-off’s then. However, with our current form, it makes me very nervous.
I’m not a ā€œDodds outā€ person but it looks and feels like this team isn’t performing like they did under Bloomfield

Regardless as to whether or not Cam won a bit of the ball, you don’t dive in like that from behind the player in the box, especially when another of your own players is next to them. Just asking for the ref to give a pen.

I think it was imagined to make a point.

I feel bad for Dodds but I feel worse for me.

It was a blatant penalty and a stupid decision by him.

With Bez and Udoh both out until today he has had little option there

Yeah, quite. I think the second half really shows why we’ve slunk into a shell of our former selves – dropping Ravizolli and replacing Morley with an unreliable Simons who misses so much of the season through suspension or precautionary-subbing has meant we’ve lost the two best passers in the team. The second half shows what that means in reality – ball after ball wasted, nothing sticking to the attackers, a loss of shape and a tendency to revert to headless chickenesque behaviour.

Next season in League One we will need two quarterbacks rather than relying on one. Humphreys is a star in the making but isn’t a defensive playmaker – we saw what happened when he is given that responsibility – a poor tackle for the penalty and poor distribution. Not sure if we’ll still sign Simons when we stay down but hopefully Dodds (or his successor) will be able to find another two. Ideally not from Denmark.
