I think Dodds has succeeded in getting us to play with plenty of ācontrolā but at the expense of the flair we showed earlier in the season.
Lots of shots are great but if most of them are wild attempts from range it doesnāt really help.

Mike Doddsā interviewsā¦ā¦..to my slightly deaf ears he sounds like Ricky Gervais playing a football manager in some iffy sitcom. The voice is similar. Probably just meā¦ā¦..listen with your eyes closed!

He did not clearly win the ball, he didnt even touch the ball, it was a penalty, i guess you havnt seen all the replays
Kone isolated is not working. If Udoh is not 100% surely, there is a player that can pretend to be a striker up there with him for a bit. Canāt understand why we seem to be so shot shy. Dodds not good enough? Tactics not good enough? We looked comfortable but set pieces seem poor now. If weāre not careful weāll be the playoff team that has lost all momentum. You can say we were already stalling under Blooms but I was less worried about form then than I am now. I doubt even VAR would have overturned the penalty. Oh wellā¦beat Huddersfield and cracks are papered over and we have a bounce.

It was actually from watching the replays that he looked to have won the ball. Havenāt been able to find any replays online from the different angles to have another look. Anyway, doesnāt really matter now. Thought the ref did ok generally in what was quite a feisty game at times.

I thought Norris kicking was the best itās been for a while. He did well to find wide players, we did poorly to make the most of it
Itās hard to emphasise how bad Reading were btw. They were shocking in the first half, then got a pen and we couldnāt deal with attacking

OK home now from the game and few thoughts.
I donāt like the Madstad, the upper away concourse was crazy small and packed even though we hadnāt sold out.
On the gameā¦
Norris please use those lovely big gloves and catch a ball every now and then, ffs punching the ball is one thing but again saw him palm a ball back out into the box when he could/should have caught itā¦His distribution was a little better today but still concerning.
The first half we were much the better side and TBF Reading looked shit, their left back looked especially weak and we should have taken advantage of that, but our passing was woeful, the quick one touches to open up oppo midfields have gone and we seem now to be kicking it up in the airā¦rather than even forward.
The players look a shadow of themselves pre-Christmas, Kone is defo not the guy that bullied his way through defences or took power shots from outside the box but that said he is wasted playing alone upfront.maybe play him and Udoh upfront? The oppo defence double up on Kone now and he has no chance and always has a card in him which is worrying.
Thought Bradley shouldāve scored his header early doors and then the game wouldāve been differentā¦as I said RFC looked a bag of shit in the first half and were there for the taking. Canāt comment on the penalty as my eyes donāt work at that kind of distance (was in the top row upper tier today).
Overall disappointing but did have a nice pint in Christmas Common on the way home.

Been staring at the screen long enough (I like the way the thread refreshes before my eyes!) didnāt know what to say - positive, negative, bit of both, yep vibes of 93/94. Weirdly I also feel a bit relieved, all that intense weāre pushing for automatic promotion stress is starting to wash away! Letās just support our team as they try and get passed the angst of not being able to score!!
I didnāt like the Madstad concourse either, or that most of the action seemed to happen down the other end. Anyway, I think we need a couple of wins to secure a play-off spot, which right now would be a win in my eyes.

Went to the game. Was actually pretty happy at half time and atmosphere was pretty good and thought we were nicely in control. Then the second half happened. Disgraceful. Playoffs it is. Although at current form, I will not be looking at Wembley date.
I donāt blame Dodds.
Not buying Morley was the most expensive move weāve made this season. And now itās time to pay.

This is why I think Dodds is out of his depth.
Heās a coach at heart and has very little presence āon the benchā. He is vanilla and lacks that āsomethingā that Sunderland fans mentioned about him when he stepped up before. Sometimes people are great at one type of role but when they step up it just doesnāt work.
If we were solid mid-table, even top 10 club when he came in then āthe projectā would be less pressurised and he could build his team. Itās just disappointing that weāve gone from a team that blew Stockport away and were solidly in 2nd to a team that are falling away and actually donāt look that same āgroupā that were in it together - even when Sam G and V were in charge.
Itās just such a shame that āChinos Data Danā has completely screwed this up and shown a level of naivety and arrogance thinking that he could play that Director of Football role with no true experience.
Iām sure that Dodds is a decent chap but this is a results business and even if weāve had 100 shots in the last two games weāve still failed to score.
We are solid but unfortunately just a bit boring.

Great post, and sadly I think a control freak is always going to want Yes Men to kiss the ring. Yes Men do not make inspiring leaders. Still think we should give Dodds next season, as it would just be trading out one for another.
My prediction is that if we donāt go up through the playoffs we will not sniff the Champo again with Rice at the helm, and this will be consensus opinion too by midway through next season (if still in L1).
Blooms farce aside, Rice is simply not good at his job. In the corporate world he would be binned off as soon as itās confirmed he has blown our shot at the big time
