Match Day Thread: Stevenage (H) 21st Feb 2026

Instead of data, maybe all prospective Wycombe players should be judged on the O’Nien-Mehmeti scale.

The other player have had a decent amount of starts. Fink only gets minutes when the game is fizzling out.

As Duff has said, everyone who gets on the field plays a part whether it is 5 minutes or 95.

It is after all a team game.

Having said that I feel for Fink, he needs a decent amount of game time to improve. Perhaps he will get his chance this season, maybe he won’t; if the latter I hope he is given an opportunity in pre-season games to prove he was worth recruiting.

I love an angry player, me. Harvie is my present favourite but Tommy Doc was a joy to watch.

He only gets minutes because he’s not good enough just at the moment. Surely if Duff saw enough in training , he would have played him more. The jury is still out if Fink is ever going to make it at this level.

Can’t beat that fiery Celtic blood

I think he’ll be club captain next season. I don’t think any of Grimmer, Scowen or Leahy will be likely to be first choice in their position and I don’t see Harvie or Fred wanting the captain’s armband full time. Casey is another possibility, maybe Morley. But Boyd-Munce seems to have intelligence, charm, tenacity and aggression - all four skills I think required in a good leader on the pitch.

Grimmer will be club captain until he leaves the club. Whether that means he’s captain on the pitch most weeks or not is largely irrelevant imo.

Interesting to hear Micheal Duff praising the staff for picking the right team in his post Stevenage interview. This seems to indicate that he is happy to leave important decisions to other people. So maybe not such an old fashioned manager after all, more a modern head coach.

It was good fun watching him getting steamed up at some opposition player. Just waiting for his inevitable retaliation…and subsequent card.
Just wish he’d have been more accurate with that cross field pass at Stamford Bridge that day.

I really hope you are wrong about Scowen. If he can regain fitness and form I don’t think there are many better players in League 1. I just remember pre-Dodds he was top three man of the match week after week, season after season.

Somewhere in the middle maybe. I think he’s a bit too old to be a Pep disciple, thank god.

It puqued my i terest so had a look, he is 7 years younger than Pep. And he is a big fan aswell.

Cheltenham manager, Michael Duff: “People say Pep [Guardiola] only ever manages the best teams. Well there’s a reason for that. He is the best. He takes world class players and he makes them better.”

And we play with a split defence and a midfielder dropping in, with a keeper playing high, he also likes his forward to press.

Maybe not a disciple, but, he is quite a modern manager, his talk of xg and data gives it away sometimes

Sorry, I’m too old to know what a split defence is. Is it one that’s just conceded a goal?

I’ll be interested to see how we line up against Barnsley Bolton and Cardiff. Three tough away games where we may well come under pressure for extended periods. If we continue with the one up top formation (Lowe?), gotta make sure he doesn’t get isolated or lack support on counter-attacks. Suspect Fred’s gonna need his turbo charged boots.

Or might we play him with two up top? Doubt that will happen but hoping our improving squad quality can impact our away form positively. Tough ask but winning the next half will need more pressing and linking and less sinking/clearing/sinking

100% agree with that. He’s been a shining light since day one.

Boyd-Munce, Boyd-Munce in the middle of our team, Boyd-Munce.

Perhaps to be modified to “…..he’s the captain of our club, Boyd-Munce.”

Talking of Dan Casey, I agree that he could also be a candidate. The number of Dans in professional football nowadays is considerable. There were five on the pitch at Adams Park during the second half on Saturday.

I know a lot will not agree but I think Dan Harvie will be our captain next season, when Jack is not in the team.

I agree with that as well.

Whoever succeeds him, there could be no better mentor than Jack Grimmer.

I suspect for these games we will either go 5-3-2 with Lowe and Onyedinma up-front or a defensive minded 4-4-2 derivation including the same two up-front.

I doubt whether Nathan Lowe is considered fit enough to start yet. Much as I’d love it. But his return to full match fitness has to be very carefully managed. Easy to forget he’s only 20.
