Match Day Thread: Stevenage (H) 21st Feb 2026

Personally I’d play a double pivot of Morley and Boyd-Munce with Henderson attacking midfield. Scowen and Mullins on the bench. But I cannot imagine Leahy will drop out of Duff’s squad at any point unless injured and Harris seems to be more his type of player than Mullins - I don’t necessarily disagree with that assessment - I think Mullins would really benefit from six months in the gym and then fight for a place next season.

I’m very nervous about tomorrow, regardless of being at home. Those Brewer’s will be tricky customers.

I wonder if that’s a bit samey?

I think Morley and Hendo are competing for the same spot personally. Which leaves one of Scowen or Boyd-Munce + one of Harris/Mullins

Duff has mentioned a few times about substitutions and not weakening the side. Let’s say he starts with Hendo/Scowen/Harris. I think we’ve more or less achieved it if they can be replaced by Morley/Boyd-Munce/Mullins.

I don’t remember ever having that much depth in midfield quality, and I haven’t even mentioned Leahy.

It should also allow us to “manage minutes” and theoretically keep more players fit and available over a gruelling run-in

Trust me, they’re not competing for the same position. Why on Earth, if we had such a quality footballer available to play as a pivot (and we wanted him to do that), would we then spend nearly a million pounds on a player in that position. Morley is the best pivot we have, although Henderson can play that role, he offers more further up the pitch.

When all are fit, I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t Morley, Henderson and Scowen. Simply because they are the best 3 players, and all offer something a bit different from one another.

would :100: agree, the depth we have in MF is insane, then having CBM and Mullins on the bench

They were last Saturday

Henderson is a brilliant footballer. Think he is the best midfielder we have. But, he doesn’t scream attacking midfielder. But, i think he could play with Morley, but would need a more attacking runner in front of them.

I think this was just a case of managing both of their minutes. They both started the game previously and their first half displays were one of the few bright spots.

….and they were again today

And Morley blew Henderson out of the water for his performance in that position. Henderson is decent as a 6, Morley is the master. Henderson will be playing further forward once he’s fully fit I’m sure.

If they are both truly competing for one position, let’s see how many times in a significant period when both fully fit that they are both playing in the team or one playing in the 6 and one on the bench. Not a few games here and there, but a decent length of time. Let’s see.

Duff confirmed last night on 3CR that both Morley and Henderson are having their minutes managed currently (as not fully fit).

While that may be true, its still looks clear that the 3 of them, including CBM are playing for the 2 CM positions.

Morley barely played 90 for Bolton this season and Hendo has had a few knocks and niggles so makes great sense to manage them carefully.

Would be unthinkable that the long term plan is for the two of then to compete for one position.

Having the option of any 2 from the 3 isn’t a bad place to be, it just requires careful management and rotation of the players so all stay fit and can play at full tempo in each game.

(It’s the new reality for WWFC, don’t you know!)

I was just wondering if Henderson didn’t come on to the pitch at all because Morley can’t play on Saturday v Bolton through some caveat on his transfer?

Whilst I know nothing about the dealings, we signed him not loaned him, there would be no such deal. That would be very anti-football

This is further backed up by his interview with Darcie in the post match interview where he stated he ‘hopes he gets a good reception’.
