Brown if we end up in the play offs
I spoke to Piergianni after the game yesterday as my mate was giving him a lift home. He has previously mentioned to my mate that “Kone is the best in the league” when it comes to opponents. He did a really good job on Kone to be fair, and was unlucky not to score himself. I complimented him on the way they played and his response was “when you’re up the top, margins tend to swing in your favour” and was very complimentary.
I asked him if the 12:30 kick offs are as much of a ball-ache for players as they are for the fans and he said that “I LOVE the early kick offs. It’s only a few hours waiting around instead of most of the day”. Never really thought of it from a players’ perspective to be fair so I found that interesting.
I agree about the habit of emitting an instinctive groan of frustration when a player makes a mistake and I’m as guilty as anyone in that respect. However, when it comes to written criticism we have time to consider our comments and I’m disappointed when people abuse players or make them scapegoats for a disappointing display, which happens frequently on other groups but fortunately not too often on the gasroom.
I sometimes wonder how short and boring the threads on this discussion forum would be in if we all waited until the game is over to write “Never in doubt! Everything is wonderful!”
People should be happy that all the people who hate the team and want us to lose every week are on here during matchday and not at the ground, screaming abuse at the players and dry heaving when they make eye contact with Dodds’ mouth.
Except for our resident Gasroom 2 Leahy hater and his usual post, not sure anyone on here has written anything approaching abuse. I rarely post during a game as I’m watching but it would be boring to come home and post ‘Everyone’ to every Man Of The Match poll and not have anything less than a positive view on the game in case I upset the team enough to tweet or eric espies a bedwetter.
grow up fella , if this was targetted at me then you need to get a life.. i go to every home and away game and we are having unbelievable season but Leahy in my view is our weakest link…that my view , you dont have to agree with it …but dismissing other peoples view is utter arrogance…says more about you
The problem with posting during a game is that comments can look outdated in an instant as we saw on Saturday. I can imagine the Facebook warriors with their fingers poised ready to heap abuse on Mike Dodds and the players until Taylor spoilt their day by scoring.
You are consistent enough in your views to reasonably be called a ‘Leahy hater’. You reliably post on here that he is ‘our weakest link’ (that he’s basically rubbish). And no-one else on here seems to have the same strength of feeling about one player that you do.
So the first sentence of @Wendoverman’s post seems factually accurate to me. Nowhere do they say that they (or anyone) is dismissing your views so I’m not sure why you feel your cage is being rattled.
I don’t think Leahy has had a particularly great season but he has had a fair few decent games (in my view) since he came back in as a regular starter.
The game is played, in the moment, those reactions are perfectly valid - although I don’t condone booing or abusing our own player as it’s totally counter productive.
I don’t wait until 2 hours after the final whistle to savour the excitement of a 91st winning minute goal and taking another step forward towards promotion, so it’s unreasonable to expect me not to feel the frustration of earlier passages of play.
That’s not what I was saying. Some people post things like ‘we’ll never score’, ‘there goes promotion’, ‘we won’t make the playoffs at this rate’ during a game and I just don’t know why as things can change so quickly.
Absolutely spot on as usual and good to see that at least one poster sees the gum chewing comments in the right light. I’m disappointed to see it probably because, in days of yore when I were but a lad, gum chewing in itself (never mind the open mouth variety) was seen as a nasty American social aberration.
I speak as someone who otherwise has the greatest respect for the way Mike Dodds is dealing with a very challenging situation. At no point have I criticised him or the team for the efforts they’ve been making and I have consistently supported those who have encouraged us to try to forget the events of earlier this year, difficult as that has been.
I remain positive. Yes, there have been some disappointments recently and at times a fair amount of frustration but things are going well now, results wise, and it’s really important that we continue to get right behind the club we love.
The sad life what I have got is largely being arrogant and targetting you, while you follow the club you love pointing at Luke Leahy (club legend, love the guy but…) but I will try to grow up.
What ever the result, the matchday thread never bears up to close examination after the fact. It’s all very much heat of the moment stuff.
I think we’re being naive if we assume the players are unaware of the negative attitude of some supporters online and I’m sure it makes them extra touchy about the atmosphere at AP. The events of the last few months can’t have been easy for them either, and yet here we are one point off automatic promotion.
There’s no virtue in not enjoying this season, we can’t undo the past.
Our academy’s PDP training group are off on tour to Denmark today, playing two fixtures against FC Nordsjælland and HIK.

Case solved. We needed two blokes in their 20’s, fluent in Danish and with a working knowledge of WWFC to chaperone our development squad on a mini tour of Denmark.
Still think we paid over the odds for them but at least it explains everything.
PDP is ‘player development programme’ apparently
I do think there are two things at work at the same time. Abuse which you referred to, which is going to be mostly FB and never okay, and people posting on here about their emotions during the match, which I think is great, and gives a sense of camaraderie. This is football, not life and death (I disagree with Shankly) and in saying football is dull in the moment we are not hurting anyone, just stating a fact. I actually find posters more credible and interesting when they seem honest in their posts than if there is an agenda of some kind causing them to curate their posts to look better.
I am sure I am not alone in the fact I don’t care if me finding football dull is “out of date” when we score an injury time scuffed shot. I don’t post so that people think I am prescient or an incredible analyst. And it does not hurt my ego if we win after a dull game - I am delighted! Maybe if survivors of a nuclear war find the Gasroom in a time capsule they will say “You know who the REAL fans were? Those who did not contribute to the matchday thread but came on later to wag a finger at those who did” but it does not really bother me.
The beautiful thing about football is, whether we’d spent the last 90 minutes cheering or grumbling, we all felt exactly the same when the goal went in.
And some people criticise absolutely any discussion or criticism, takes all sorts to make a chat room apparently.
Spot on as usual @shev
While it’s important for fans to stay positive, some people may need to develop slightly thicker skins. If you think that one or two whinging Wycombe fans is hard to take, try playing at the sharp end of the Championship (many would like to). The fans of the big clubs are volatile, and can turn in an instant. Make a couple of mistakes and you can have 5000 people screaming their displeasure at you. What’s your mental state then? As for gumgate, give me strength.
