Mike's Play-Off preview

“I’ve got a huge amount of respect for the Wycombe fans because they’re the lifeblood of the football club. We have to do our bit to get them going.”

Mike Dodds says the Blues will be giving everything they’ve got to make the town proud in this play-off campaign.

Every successful team needs a dreamer, a realist and a worker. With those personas businesses/teams etc generally do well. Most people will, of course, have each of those three things but they typically are very strong in one area.

GA was primarily a dreamer, as was Pete Couhig and both worked hard for their dreams. Rob Couhig was mainly a realist but could also set a great vision when required. Dobbo a realist and a worker. They worked so well together.

Bloomers, Harrison and Thomas had that blend as well, Matt could be a real dreamer and was a good speaker, one you could buy into.

I’m failing to see in our current set-up who the dreamer/inspiration is. Mike talks well but he doesn’t inspire for me. He’s saying lots of right things but he’s not taking me on the journey. That’s absolutely fine, as some of these qualities are innate. DR doesn’t seem to inspire, EV and ML are quiet. So where is our dreamer, our reach for the skies person in the current set up who can motivate. I think Mike needs that person to work off.

I also disagree that he cannot fix things now, he’d done a good job at fixing them for first 65 minutes last week until the dreaded back 5 re-surfaced.

Under GA a boat load of injuries actually helped us off a bad run sometimes, as his hand was forced. I’m hoping this might be the same with Mike. I’d love to see Low back in the team in a back four only, either partnered with Bradley or Taylor. I’ve also got no issue with Taylor at left back, if he opts for Bradley in the centre.

With Scowen out, Leahy has to start alongside Simons, with Humphrey behind Kone.

Udoh on the left and Fred on the right. Captain Jack to round off the outfield team.

I suspect we will be a lot better on Sunday than the league game and am hoping we take something to play for down to The Valley.

Easily the best words Dodds has spoken in public in his time as Wycombe boss.

He’s referenced the flaws for the first time and said what he hopes is done.

He’s tried to bring unity between fans and players.

And some of the things he’s said there are inspirational. “You can be legends.”

So much more confident after watching that interview.

He’s much better when he’s sitting down, for some reason.

Why does Leahy have to start ? he is poor and would genuinly prefer Bakinson as he wont make the game about him like Leahy does , he wants to take Fks pens, throws ect…if he starts then we really are doomed

Not that keen on him?

MD came across well there, decent interview, acknowledges we haven’t been good enough & that he has to do something about it

I think there is something to this. The dreams of the senior execs are about establishing an academy.

He’ll never be Henry V, but i’m glad he’s getting more comfortable in front of the camera at least.

Shame, would have worked well with the ticket sales, the fewer men (and women in the stands), the greater share of honour

We were once a happy few, a believe we can be again!

I know Leahy is your current scapegoat but given Butcher is on loan, Scowen is injured and Bakinson has started one game in the last 12 weeks then I’d prefer Leahy in the middle.
Leahy is a dead ball specialist so I would expect him to be sniffing around those things wanting to get involved. I’ve got no issue with this but would like to see Humphries & Simons wipping some free kicks in as well.
Leahy does a lot of the basics really well in midfield, he’s certainly not the best player we’ve ever had. I wondered if our form might dip when Scowen got injured before Xmas under MB and Leahy came into midfield. Of the 7 games missed we won 4 and drew 3 with Leahy playing, so think he is perfectly acceptable.
I’m certainly not his biggest fan but he is the best option out of those currently available. You have a different opinion.

Anyone else feel uneasy that in every interview he refers to himself as “the captain of the ship”, like he specifically wants to avoid the terms ‘Head Coach’ and, God forbid, ‘Manager’?

There are many more significant reasons why he feels pretty uninspiring but it irritates me (perhaps unreasonably).

I think you will find more like minded posters on the Facebook group where negativity and pessimism is the order of the day.

about being realistic , Leahy ajnd Dodds are rhe main reason why have not not autos

How anyone can suggest Bakinson over Leahy is beyond me. Had his only start in the last 12 against Charlton of all teams and was cack. Wasn’t even brought on when Scowen got injured at Orient so I think it’s safe to say he’s only around the team / bench to make the numbers up.

I think everything has gone so belly up it’s a 4231 for me with Westergaard chucked in next to Simons. Not that I rate him, but I can’t judge him either way until he actually starts a game.

For me I go ..

Norris
Grimmer Low Taylor Leahy
Simons Westergaard
Udoh Humphreys Reach
Kone
