That 66% figure is striking. I now feel a tiny bit happier about being so completely crass and out of touch (rightly put in my place by @eric_plant) in hoping that the 24 year old prices would have people falling over themselves to grab a bargain.
On the topic of matchday attendances, whilst it is good in a way not to be as dependent as in the recent past on gate income, I’m constantly reminded of how Bradford City have maintained disproportionately massive attendances simply by dint of selling season tickets at bargain prices.
Atmosphere is so important, both for players and supporters, and Wycombe, under new ownership, are arguably ideally placed to do something similar. Or are we? Could the infrastructure cope with near capacity/capacity crowds ? We (you I suspect in my case) will find out if and when we get back to the Championship.
A lot of fans simply have to prioritise games when there’s so many stacked together.
But the slightly concerning thing is that Plymouth game wasn’t available online. If it had been, the numbers surely would be lower.
However, when you have 2 league games, a big cup game and a 1st round FA cup against a team in the same division, the latter is probably the one people will swerve.
Fingers crossed for a team not in our division in tonight’s draw. Ideally someone we haven’t played for many a year, or ever! A non league team would be ideal.
And no, it’d be absolute carnage trying to deal with 15-20 9,000+ crowds in a season in the championship in the current state.
Milbrook School, a few extra busses - those are a good start, but they’d need to do a lot more if possible.
Find a way to get a big park n ride effort going from near the Cinema - maybe by including it in ticket prices etc?
Double/Triple up busses from other locations etc. Anything they can do to stop 1,000s of cars trying to drive to one small area in a packed area of town at one time.
I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the attendance on Saturday. I was expecting sub 3,000, if not sub 2,500
Boosted of course by yet another decent away following from Plymouth. They really do travel a long way in numbers. Must be tough when they are served up limp displays such as they were on Saturday. For the second saturday in succession we came up against a side showing absolutely no enthusiasm for the contest. We were in total control
Jaiden Bartolo again in the Gibraltar U21s squad this month - playing pool is a bit streched this time because the seniors, U21s and U19s are all playing at the same time so a few who had been playing in a higher age category have had to drop down a level. Senior team is probably their oldest since Wiseman took over, including a striker who hasn’t been called up in 3 years.
And just for the hell of it, here’s the U19s with a couple of U21s dropping down for it, plus apparently a Huddersfield player randomly showing up. Dominated by Lincoln Red Imps players since they’ve surprised people in the UEFA Youth League (also an U19 competition) by reaching Q2 and only losing 4-0 away to previous Youth League champions AZ Alkmaar recently.
When I last looked Bartolo was mainly benched for Chesham but their fans seemed happy with his loan extension. Hopefully he’ll continue to develop and at the least have a good NL/NLS career.
The old pantomime villain Ken McKenna was an added bonus to a really enjoyable evening that night. In my head Guppy’s goal was only a few minutes after McKenna’s goal but not sure video supports that memory. Ken was a very good player at that level to be fair.
