You don’t mind extremists settling here. Got it!
Are you worried that we already have enough extremists of our own?
What’s your definition of an extremist?
Given my lengthy over share above. I’d say that Christian leader was an extremist.
You ok with him “settling” here?
You seriously think I haven’t known Popper’s Paradox for the last thirty five years?
If you have, then why that ridiculous flirty coy dance you did for several posts?
I was responding to @Benk and his definition of an extremist.
And I’m interested to know what your definition is.
Absolutely! Again, sorry if I’ve misjudged you but I have noticed a tendency for people on the left to hold double standards - particularly when it comes to the tricky task of trying to reconcile liberalism and Islam.
It wasn’t me talking about extremists. @Benk said he considered anybody who was anti gay to be an extremist. So I asked if he was fine with anti gay people from anti gay cultures settling in Britain - and he replied that he is.
There are many many people in this country I dont have the same opinions on. Id hate the government to put in a policy that only people legally allowed to reside had to meet my specifications on what I like ir dont like.
Would be an awful place to live.
I’m not sure what you mean, but I think Popper’s Paradox is b/s anyway. It’s just a way of telling others to shut up.
Issue is my views on extreme views are probably different to others.
Yeah, I get that.
I’m wondering what your views are on the extremist that already live here, have done for decades and claim birth right to be here.
The part of your questioning that irks me is the “come here to settle” bit.
That’s irrelevant. The bad bit is the extremist part. They should have no part in any society whether they have come here and settled, or have lived here for centuries.
I don’t want anyone settling here unless there is some clear benefit to us. I’m not keen on talk of ‘extremists’ - it’s pretty much hyperbole. I find it strange though, that those of us (the majority) that think there is far to much immigration are classed by leftists as extremists. If anything, wanting open borders is an extreme position.
What about those that come here, aren’t extremists when they arrive but are first demonised because they are a bid different and find solace in a group of people similarly demonised that they want to fight back
Edit: for what it’s worth phases like “come here to settle” is the kind of thing I was talking about that humans love to do that put different groups of people into different pots so they can start to find faults in them and make them the baddies.
First it starts with the extremists that settle here
Then it’s all those that come here to settle could be extremists.
To everyone that comes to settle is an extremist.
That’s the nationals front/reform playbook. So don’t tell me that doesn’t or won’t happen.
Sorry, im probably a dull centrist rather than a leftists. Im also unsure if I said extremists, or just said extreme views. Though my extreme views and yours or anyone else’s are probably very different.
As I’ve said (above) I’m not keen on talk of extremists. I’d certainly say murdering somebody for their beliefs is extreme. If Anne Widdecombe was murdered for her beliefs, then I would expect the culprit to spend a very long time in jail, whether they were born here or not. I’d expect any murderer to be jailed for a very long time, no matter what their motive or their birthplace.
This is what you said.
You might not like the talk of extremists. But look at my edit above and tell me I’m wrong that the difficult phrase isn’t “extremist” but actually starts with “those that come here and settle”
Ten years ago, I used to joke that I was a centre ground extremist. The trouble is that the term Centrist first became a barbed term, and now means a specific world view that I do not hold. It’s the Centrists that want to keep us stuck in the mire of globalist, liberal totalitarianism. And Globalist liberalism is starting to look a lot like globalist feudalism.
