I have only just remembered to add my own donation. Be careful when you do not to be fooled by the large “tip” that Justgiving add to the donation. That doesn’t go anywhere near the charity. I would set to zero. does seem to have deleted the option for gift aid also. I’ll review platform if we do this again next season.
A lot of people boldly making predictions here, without knowing which players may be leaving, and whether we will make any more signings in the next few days.
I think I’ll keep my powder dry until the end of next week.
A little bump for this thread with first game feeling way off but actually this weekend.
The charity sector is really struggling. Macmillan have recently made 25% of its staff redundant, Scope 20%, Oxfam is consulting on redundancies, the National Trust is losing 500 people, Relate had to be rescued from administration. Sadly Samaritans is not immune from the financial pressures and have recently announced that half its branches will need to close in the next few years. Anything you can give to help out will make a huge difference. chair boy is fundraising for Samaritans of Plymouth, East Cornwall and South West Devon.
Thanks to all who have supported this little comp for another year and supported @railwaysteve excellent comp which I am delighted to see he is running again this year and especially who have donated.
I’m going to piggyback off this request for help for charities - they don’t just need your money but if you have spare time to contribute that would be much appreciated.
Between 30 and 50% of charities in the UK have trustee vacancies. Trustees (like school governors) set the strategic direction for charities without being involved (except in the smallest charities) in the day to day operations. These are unpaid roles. If you have some spare time (not necessarily a huge amount!) it can be a very rewarding way to use skills you have developed in your day job to make a difference to society.
