Rice has run out of mates to hire.
As I said on the other post, maybe I’ve got things wrong on Ings. Early days but he looked extremely sharp, hungry and impacted the game, nothing like I feared.
That doesn’t change my belief that there is no clear idea regarding transfer policy.
I thought he showed his class and his ability in the short cameo. He also looked fit and very hungry to do well.
Early days but it looks very promising.
Aside from his pedigree, Ings is a ‘name’. And despite his relatively advanced footballer age he doesn’t quite look and feel as ancient as someone like Rob Lee! Who’d been at West Ham a year or so before joining Wycombe (yes I know he was about 37 when he signed for us).
He’ll get bums on seats, especially if he retains the Midas touch in front of goal. A West Ham supporting mate (who lives in Totteridge…) has already said he’ll come down to AP with his sons, simply because of the Ings effect.
I think there has been consistency, perhaps not a manager in the ‘old’ way, but clearly a coaching staff following an accepted structure and game plan, with a first team squad of higher potential than before.
They’re both capable of impressing. Trouble is it’s only in fits and starts.
And not many starts now! Though they are probably both fit.
Wigan manager Gary Caldwell has randomly come out with this this week:
“Jayden Wareham would have cost more than our highest-earning player. I’m very confident the strikers we have will score if we keep creating chances for them. That said, it’s also on the whole team to contribute to the goalscoring.”
This is ‘buying yourself more time as an under pressure manager 101’ isn’t it?
Doesn’t mean a lot as no doubt Wareham will be costing more than our previous highest-earning player
Maybe he wanted more to move to grim Wigan than to the chair capital of England.
