Too much of a hypothetical question for me to get my head around.
If we stick with him in League One next season, Iâd expect Dan Rice to make clear that promotion is the expectation and sack him by Christmas if we look like weâre going to bore our way to mid table nothingness.
@glasshalffull1, I get where you are coming from, but why are you responding to a post on Facebook on here? I never said them thingsâŠ
Also, Gaz left us on the cusp of the playoffs, we dropped under MB, and he indeed got a lot of stick. Nobody on here is abusing Dodds or the players, nor are we all too stupid to see the big picture, some of us are worried about performances and form (that we can see if not successfully transcode into more positive statistical data steams) after a fantastic start which made us dare to dream.
The 100 or so people on here are allowed to criticise and debate without the sky falling in and it destroying our hopes of promotionâŠ
Careful, when I said the same thing on here I got criticised by one or two on here.
Our away form is the best in the league, and after Bolton, Huddersfield and to some extent Rotherham, you could make an argument that it would be pragmatic for Dodds to pursue his unpopular approach again this Saturday.
I just worry if he does stick to the defensive approach, the atmosphere is going to degenerate very quickly if we donât score early, or god forbid Orient nick an early goal.
Weâd have very similar post-game scenes to Bloomfieldâs away performance there last year, even if weâre still mathematically in the running for the autos after a loss.
Against Stockport though, he simply has to mix it up and try to attack. If he puts out a similar line-up to Charlton at AP in 10 days time and doesnât get a win, I think the crowd will be baying for blood⊠or the closest thing Wycombe supporters get to that. Baying for bovril perhaps?
Anyway - hopefully this is all pessimistic irrelevant nonsense and we smash them both 3-0.
That is of course assuming promotion is the aim. It has been made clear by the owners that the Academy is the priority. Itâs much easier to blood promising young players in League 1 or 2 than it is in the Championship.
My plea that Dodds should use the Dim Mak (death touch) last Monday was a disaster, so this Saturday he should use LLAP-Goch, the secret art of Welsh self defence.
Monty Pythonâs parody of the Dim Mak actually makes sense here. It says that attack is the best form of defence and the best attack is when the opponent doesnât even know you are there. Dodds should assume Wrexham will beat Charlton and weâll need to win with several goals to still be in with a chance. So we need to be aggressive on Saturday. Then itâs back to ecky thump for the Orient game.
Yes but it would be much more profitable to be able to blood youngsters in while playing in the Championship. Those who swim will be able to command eight figure fees from Premier League teams. Those who swim in Leagues One and Two will be closer to scraping seven figures.
Doesnât being in a higher league make it easier to attract promising young players to the academy?
If we lose to Orient then Wrexham are up with a win and 3 clear with a draw. If Charlton win then both of Wrexham and Charlton are above us. Mathematically still in it with a loss and Wrexham not winning but Torquay miracle levels needed to get there.
We have nothing to gain in Dodds not setting us up to score goals on Saturday and if we lose then please let it be a 4-3 where we looked like scoring all afternoon and not a 1-0 where we never looked like scoring all weekend.
Itâs a very deep and choppy ocean in the Championship!
Money is probably more important to youngsters and their agents nowadays.
I think the club has already decided itâs a sacking club. Not offering Bloomfield a deal is effectively telling him heâs not wanted
The scary thing is, he was seemingly judged by his reluctance to buy in to a âfootballing recruitment modelâ rather than his management ability.
If Dodds is judged by his acceptance of the same model over his management abililty, then he will keep his job for the forseeable future.
Perhaps unfortunately, most Premier League and EFL clubs have head coaches rather than managers nowadays. Even Slotâs title at Liverpool is Head Coach rather than manager.
Perhaps there is a good way for a management group to work with a head coach and a bad way.
The key factor in the Blooms ( hope he keeps Luton up, never thought I would write that ) vs Mike Dodds [ very nice chap by the way ] is that Mike was an Ownership Group appointee. Unfair to judge until Mike Dodds has a couple of transfer windows.
As we saw post Charlton, football fans are fickle. The world may be a different place by Saturday night or failing that a play off final win.
Last game I saw was Charleston Riverdogs vs Hickory Crawdads which saw the Crawdads come back to snatch victory, I hoped it would be an omen, it wasnâtâŠ
Isnât the head coach model where most football clubs are nowadays , certainly at Championship /Premier league level?
If thatâs the case isnât MB limiting his opportunities somewhat, or might he one day have to accept a head coach role. What model do they have at Ipswich for example?
As has already been said though maybe what matters more is your employers attitude towards you and their staff , rather than whether youâre a Head Coach or Manager.
Somebody said that MB was offered a new contract at a reduced rate of pay. No idea if that is true or not but it would clear up any mysteries.
I didnât hear that but I did hear that MB received a call stressing the club would not stand in his way if he chose to leave and would waive any compensation i.e the exit is this way, Mr. Blooms.
Weird way to treat a club legend and over achieving manager but hey ho, he was also told about the new ownership by text which is a bit weaselly.
How many Head Coaches in the Premier League have no input on the signings their clubs make?
Iâve no idea, but at the end of the day itâs just a job title. Iâm sure some have more involvement than others. In our case, it sounded like this was limited to non-existent.
