Thoughts on Mike Dodds and next season

Except in the wake of Taylor and Morley going back, a CB and additional Midfielder or two was exactly what people were asking for.

Now, where they the right choices, looks like no. But think we all hope that they really are ones for the future and not ones that disappear with nearly zero appearances/starts against there name.

I don’t think any manager has ever been sacked solely on the basis of one or two players not being as good as they thought before signing them. Thats pretty much a danger on every signing, ever, isn’t it?

Fans asking for stuff is irrelevant, it’s the management / coaching team that matters and we didn’t have one.

They’ll definitely be good enough for Championship football when they can’t get on the bench in League 1.

The “manager” didn’t sign them.

I’m still angry about Nicky Walker not even getting a solitary minute during his loan.

Do you honestly think “what if” conversations about loan player recalls weren’t happening long before the transfer window?

Management/coaching teams would 100% been talking about what they’d want/need/like on the run up to the window even if specific players weren’t talked about. Even if it was as basic as “we’re light in full back positions. We’d need to replace the loan players if they are returned. We have too many players in these positions, we need one here. These players aren’t playing much and might want a loan out”

You’re belief that everything that DR et al do is from a position of fire fighting and knee jerk reactions, while simultaneously undermining and having replacement head coach options planned is amazing.

I’m also glad player development isn’t a thing and that players might need a step back before forfilling their potential. That way we would all know that Al Hamadi wouldn’t have played in the prem a pretty short time after leaving having barely started for us and now a fairly established Championship starter.

Do you honestly think Mike Dodds was involved in picking two random Danes to sign before he’d even joined the club?

What the actual fuck are you talking about? What firefighting? What knee jerk reactions? Where have I ever suggested either of these things?

Again, what the actual fuck? These straw men are so huge you’re going to need Donald Sutherland. The Danes are in their late 20s.

@OxfordBlue Any idea if Discourse has an ignore function so I don’t have to respond to an argument someone is having in their own head?

you say straw man, I’m point out your apparent absolutes that the two Dane’s aren’t going to be championship quality because they haven’t (yet) shown any potential here is a horseshit argument when there are plenty of examples that players can come to a club, not be an instant hit, but then go onto becoming championship (or better) players.

Ali Al Hamadi was just the first example that came to mind of when that exact thing has happened with a player that has come here.

It might, or might not, happen with one of, both of, or neither of the Danes. We don’t know yet but making snide comments about them when none of us have had the opportunity to see them play is, well, just a dumb take.

Your outright hatred of everything Dan Rice,m does is clouding your every opinion.

Discourse does have an ignore. Guaranteed. It might just have to be a manual process you have to undertake👍

Do you think they will become successful Championship players? And if so, what makes you think that?

It’s definitely true that things might or might not happen, but we can take an informed view on which is more likely.

How many players have we had that have failed here and gone onto greater things? I’d be surprised if it were anywhere near even 5%.

My entire point that we can’t take an informed view - either way - on them when they haven’t played 90 minutes of football for us, or in England, between them.

There are very rare examples (George Weahs cousin) that are so obviously out of there depth that you can tell they won’t make anything of themselves. But I don’t think either of the Danes were THAT bad.

Anyone that is telling you they either will or will not be successful Championship players is either a liar or a time traveller.

The big question, for me, isn’t are they good enough in the future, Its of Bradley, Taylor, Low and Grimmer, which 2 or 3 are you dropping for Anders?
And of Simons, Scowen, Leahy, Humphries and even Onyedinma, McCleary, Lowry, Bakinson, which 3 or 4 are you dropping for Westergaard.

I don’t know if Anders and Westergaard are good enough for the championship, but I do think none of the players mentions above deserve to have lost there places. Even to record signings. And the elephant in the room, how many of those named above are likely not going to be with us next year?

So yeah, who knows. Maybe the club isn’t lying about them being ones for the future. But, I’m probably just drinking the coolaid, rather than looking at the bigger picture.

Magnus definitely looked like he had something about him in the few minutes he played. If Anders is somehow below even Grimmer in the pecking order that’s a bit concerning. See also, Declan Skura.

Grimmer is perhaps the one “weaker” of the names mentioned. But perhaps being the club captain gives him an edge over others when it comes to playing time?

Aaaaanyway, I am minded this is a thread about Mike Dodds. I have derailed it enough.

I think Dodds’ll come good. But its going to be a Preseason and at least 10 games of next season before I start really judging him.

We know that they aren’t good enough to get into the current team, so why would we expect them to be good enough to get into future teams?

My expectation is that with the funding we now have that our quality will improve over time, not decrease.

Donald Sutherland + straw man…

Hmmmm…JFK???

No idea what made me think Don was in Wicker Man.

In case anyone was wondering, Gasroom 3.0 does have an ignore function and it’s glorious.

Impossible.

Funnily enough I got the reference right away and thought he was in it too! Mandela effect?

I’m not saying it fully explains their absence from the first team picture, but it’s worth remembering that the financial rules for League One change next season so the expenditure on the Danes and other newcomers could have been made with that in mind. Also, the fact that MD has given such little game time to the new signings contradicts the idea that he isn’t fully in control of team selection.

We. Won’t. Be. In. League. One. Next. Season.
