Weekend Matches

Coming up this weekend.

Sunday: Firsts v Winchester City Flyers, Southern Regional Premier, 2pm, The 1878 Stadium, Wymers Wood Road, Burnham SL1 8JG

The U18s play their final game of the season, having beaten Hartland 4-2 at Burnham in February.

Head Coach Carl Simon looks back at the Sholing game last weekend, and towards the visit of the Flyers.

FT Firsts 4-4 Winchester City Flyers (HT 2-3).

In what sounded like a thrilling game, the Flyers took a 8’ lead, doubled on 31’. Potter (36’) and Watkins (38’) quickly drew the Chairgirls level, before the Flyers took the lead again on 42’. A Potter header on 56’ restored parity, and Watkins made it 4-3 on 73’. Nkomo equalised for the Flyers on 90+2’, her second of the day, and then received a straight red one minute later for a foul.

Yesterday, the U18s completed their league programme with a 6-1 win at Hartland.

The Firsts play their last league game in two weeks time, away to Oxford City. Portchester have second place in their hands now. One of their remaining games is at Ascot and, if they win there, they deserve second place. The Chairgirls still have the annual Sponsors Cup to come, opponents and date TBC.

The U18s will finish third, unless Andover win their final two games, the last of which is away to Oxford United, but not until 10 May.

No game for the Firsts this Sunday. Carl Simon’s thoughts on the the Flyers match last weekend. He mentions a game next week against Carshalton, not sure what that is, must be midweek as the Firsts play at Oxford City next Sunday.

Thanks, you’re right, looking at Carshalton Twitter. I can’t see that W3 are publicising it.

A friend of mine is possibly officiating so I had inside knowledge!

FT Firsts 2-1 Carshalton Athletic (HT 1-0).

Scorers unknown but Carshalton said the Chairgirls scored on the stroke of half-time, the visitors equalised on 60’, with an 87’ minute for WW.

Yesterday’s Southern Premier results.

Portchester are closing in on the Chairgirls, but they travel to Ascot next weekend.

Tomorrow, Sunday, the Firsts play their final league game of the season, away to fourth placed Oxford City. Since the Chairgirls beat them 4-1 at Burnham in November, the Hoops have taken 17 points from nine league games, and have two Cup finals to come, the Oxon Senior Cup and the Chairman’s Cup.

If the Chairgirls win then Portchester will have to win at Ascot tomorrow, and beat Sholing at home the following week, to finish in second place. Kick-off 2pm at the MGroup Stadium, Court Place Farm, Marston, OX3 0NQ.

FT Oxford City 3-3 Firsts (HT 2-2).

Kayla Potter scored her second of the day in the closing minutes to equalise, Danielle Puddefoot with the other. With Portchester losing 3-2 at Ascot today, it means that the Chairgirls are all but assured of second place. Portchester can draw level with a win next week but their goal difference is 19 goals worse than the Chairgirls.

Edit. Portchester don’t play their final game until 4th May, so a two week wait for the final placings.

Entertaining game today. Danielle’s goal was an absolute belter and Kayla’s 100th minute equaliser was a wonderfully taken header. I hope the City keeper is okay - she took quite a battering in the second half.

Spot on @MindlessDrugHoover, some fantastic goals, especially Kayla’s last minute equaliser, given the pressure of the situation to get a point to finish second.
