If a contract has been agreed while Joe is still a player of our’s (30th June & before), we can claim a fair amount of compensation. However, on the 1st July, his status becomes a “free agent” and that means he can talk and agree a contract with whoever he likes as he has no connection to any club. It becomes a grey matter when if Wycombe can prove that he was “taped up” or that an agreement was in place for him to sign with another club after the 1st July to get around not paying anything.

I don’t think it is July 1st, but another month, possibly two, before we aren’t entitled to a fee, having offered terms of engagement.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. If he’s had his head turned, he’s been turning up and training but hasn’t busted a gut to get back into the starting squad.
However, with the way the club has been run recently, do you think Rice etc are going to go down the road of pushing for more compensation or just let him go?

Because they’re both under contract. Don’t worry though, they could still leave and I wouldn’t be surprised if they have moved on by September 2nd. The same applies to several other players under contract.
