24 / 25 Tour de Season Attendance Prediction

This seems to have worked ok in a new location.

After the Shrewsbury Home Game - Match 39:
Many congratulations to @wwfcblue who maintains position at the top of the Leaderboard.
Congratulations to @DevC in 2nd who has cut the lead in half with a match score of [42].
Congratulations to @NewburyWanderer who had the same match score of [42] and cut the gap between 4th and 3rd to a whisker, whilst also holding on with the best score of the season so far despite Forecaster of the Week @MFHBlue delievering a resounding match score of just three [3].

Congratulations are due to @MFHBlue who jumped the furthest up the Leaderboard this match and notched up a new personal best prediction for the season. Congratulations are also due to @shitcagowwfc who also has a new personal best for the season and reached a highest position in the table so far this season - on a limited number of predictions.

Congratulations to @BSE and to @ChipsintheAdams (who was @mooneyman at the time) - both joined the Sub 100 Club this week.

Please don’t forget to make a prediction for the Reading away game by 11:30 on Saturday.

After the Reading Away Game - Match 40

Not many changes - big numbers often means not many close misses.

Many congratulations to @wwfcblue who remains Top of the Leaderboard with just six matches left in the regular season.
Many congratulations to @NewburyWanderer whose single person miss for the Peterborough away game remains the closest prediction of the season so far.

Congratulations to @MindlessDrugHoover who is currently Forecaster of the Week and whose score of [77] for the match resulted in a move one place up the Leaderboard.

@MFHBlue gave is the second closest prediction of the matchday [188] and also moves up a single place.

I think I have altered those forecasters who have changed nyms, please let me know if I have missed anyone.

As always best of luck to everyone predicting the next game - Huddersfleld away - you can find the thread in the Match Day subsectionl

After the Huddersfield Away Game - Match 41
I am playing catch up this morning -
This match was different to the Reading away game, same sort of sizeable numbers but a number of forecasters were close so there are a few changes on the Leaderboard.
A mention again for @Blues4ever - Forecaster of the Week with their first prediction. All those already on the Leaderboard with scores within one hundred of the total crowd moved up the table.
@Robin [64 match score] up to 7th.
@perfidious_albion [25] up to 9th
@Ryan_W_Kirkby [26] up to 11th
@a40 [97] up to 18th

@Forestblue [103] gained 20th place
@bookertease [126] reached 12th place
@MindlessDrugHoover [also 126] had a counting score with a new 10th best prediction, but stayed 15th
@Alexo and @Erroll_Sims also had match scores which made a difference, but not to placings.
@thecatwwfc [276] shaved a bit of the best 10 score and gained a place.

A good match for quite a few for one which I for one found difficult to predict.

Update for the Huddersfield Match Leaderboard -

@Blues4ever and @DJWYC14 are one and the same person - some of you may have seen the posts on the ‘Name Change’ and Stevenage attendance threads.

I have amalgamated the two lots of predictions as part of the preparation for the update on here for the Stevenage game.
Congratulations are due to @Blues4ever / @DJWYC14 for a personal best prediction for the Huddersfield game that should have lifted them to 10th on that Leaderboard with a score of 65.2.

I am not going to reissue the table above but instead post the Stevenage update as soon as possible. Hope the forecasting faithful of the Gasroom will forgive that.

After the Stevenage Home Game - Match 42

Interesting set of outcomes because there were a fair few with predictions closer than one hundred and a fair few more with predictions in the 100 - 200 range.
Also because of the missed name change there was @Blues4ever / @DJWYC14’s two Forecaster of the Week predictions both which missed by ten to add in for the Huddersfield and Stevenage games.

Many congratulations to @wwfcblue for maintaining a two point lead at the top.
Many congratulations to @NewburyWanderer who continues to lead the best individual prediction of the season.

Many congratulations to @Blues4ever (@DJWYC14) who was Forecaster of the Week for the Huddersfield game with a miss of ten and then repeated the exact same feat, including the miss by ten for the Stevenage game. The two scores have been added into this table for name change reasons and the result has been a new personal best score of the season and a five place leap up the table.

Congratulations to @Erroll_Sims and myself who also both recorded new personal best predictions this game. Neither of us moved up the table despite close predictions because @Alex jumped out of the way with a neat prediction and I was too far behind anyway.

@Robin took 7th place and now has all ten of their best ten predictions less than one hundred.

Congratulations to @Twizz who continues to move up the table and should really have a highlighting in yellow for a highest position reached so far this season.
Above @Twizz, @MFHBlue and @ChipsintheAdams both had predictions within their top ten which improved their scores but not enough to catch @Glenactico above them.
The same was the story for @Bayo who moved much closer to the group above..
A mention too for @perfidious_albion who on score terms has moved closer to the top of the table but dropped a place because of the achievements of @Blues4ever.

Four games away from the end of the season, with maybe some sell out games approaching. Only @DevC can catch @wwfcblue at the top in a single game but there are at least a handful who still have a realistic chance of topping the table. Mathmatically it is possible for @bookertease with ease from 13th with four spot on redictions.

Good luck to all.

After the tremendous Boton Away Game - Match 43

Many congratultion to @wwfcblue who holds the top spot on the Leaderboard with three games to go. The top ten was remarkably stable this match despite the Gasroom average being pretty close.
@silverfox in 5th, did shave 0.3 off their Leaderboard score with a new 10th best prediction.
Many congratulations also to @NewburyWanderer who keeps the closest individual prediction so far this season missing by a single person for the crowd at the Peterborough away game. This weeks Forecaster of the Week - @Alexo - came close, missing by just three for a crowd of over 21,000. On percentage terms the margin was quite fine indeed - congratulations to @Alexo for making a personal best prediction of the season so far.
@bookertease, @MindlessDrugHoover and @thecatwwfc, as well as @Alexo, all moved up the table

Good luck to all predicting the attendance for the Charlton game - tickets do seem to still be selling. Just a reminder that it closes for counting predictions on this thread if by some chance there is a sell out.

@railwaysteve
Can’t work out how to direct message you as your profile is hidden but I’d like to guess 8930 with 1264 Chairboys for the Orient away attendance before you close down the guessing as the game is sold out for both home and away fans.

After the Charlton home game - Match 44

Many congratulations to @wwfcblue who, as Forecaster of the Week, reduced his score on the Leaderboard to below thirty, and has almost opened up a 3 point lead at the top of the table. @DevC can reach the top in a single game but only with a near perfect prediction and if @wwfcblue misses by more than 40. A sub 30 score is a very fine achievement.

Many congratulations to @NewburyWanderer who has the best single prediction of the season so far.
Congratulations to @LDF, returning to old haunts in 18th position and at the same time joining the Sub 100 Club.
Congratulations to @thecatwwfc, a large leap up the table into new haunts in the top part of the table with a highest position so far this season.
A pat on the back for myself for my best prediction so far this season. @mwite and myself were the only others to move up the table , although @Glenactico and @SmiroludyBlue both held positions with good scores this match.

Anyone and everyone are welcome to have a go at predicting the total sell out crowd at Brisbane Road, (according to Wikipedia it does currently have that name), only those that are already on record will count in this competition but new forecasts will still appear on the match outcome tables.

Next Seasoon’s Competition Rules:
I am hoping to run the same sort of competition next season, no matter what division we are playing in. If it is the Championship, we will probably have sell out home crowds.

I have been wondering whether Third Generation Gasroomers who predict find the rules fair and useful or maybe otherswise.

When I first conceived of the competition I thought of it as an interesting thing / bit of fun for the run up to a match. Attendance is not quite like the score in that the number becomes more knowable as kick off approaches - hence the rules - the one hour deadline and the sell out declaration does currently prevent people making further predictions which count in the season long competition. The other rule about not changing predictions has the advantage for me of not adding to the admin. I introduced the one exception to that for a partial sell out - only being allowed to change opposition supporters into Wycombe supporters, (so leaving the total prediction unchanged) for some fun during the run up to an Oxford game and on that sort of occasion there definately is for me a glimmer of glee in the admin work.

I have thought of introducing a grey line at 24 hours before kick off and then making some importance of ‘the best early prediction’, the drawback to that is the extra admin and the reasonable possibility I might not be accurate with that on every occasion.

I am asking if anyone has strong views or a useful take on the above please could they post on this thread.

Your competition your rules Steve. FWIW I think its generally very well designed and just about the right mix of enjoyable and infuriating.

If you want to tinker, my slight preference would be dump the sell out rule or get the threads up more in advance (maybe minimum seven days in advance ideally 10-14) and allow changes (is it really much more admin? or maybe allow five changes per season but that might be more admin than its worth). Keep the one hour before deadline. Don’t do the "grey line idea). But really do what you feel comfortable with. Its pretty darn good as it is.

If we are having discussion on competition design, would welcome any gripes about the score prediction comp too.

I think the rules as currently constructed are very fair and sensible based on experience. I’m very happy with them. Less happy with my own predictions this season.

I’m also very grateful to you for running it, @railwaysteve, @railwaybeth, and all for you making it manageable in admin terms.

I’m also really grateful to you, @DevC for your efforts on the score prediction competition. And I think the rules for that work well, too.

No need to change a brilliant competition. Thanks for all you hard work, it is greatly appreciated.

Happy with the current rules

Less happy with my predictive skills & ability to get a prediction in on time

I think to improve the competition and make it harder the predictions should be in 48hrs before KO.

I’d also extend the average guesses to 20, instead of 10.

I’d also remove the sell out clause where people can’t guess after a sell out is declared.

Keep it at one guess and no changes at all.

Well done on clinching the win today @wwfcblue . Outstanding effort all season.

Thank you @DevC, you’ve had a fine season yourself and could still grab the second lowest score since @railwaysteve started the competition 7 years ago.

Congratulations indeed to @wwfcblue, apologies for not posting sooner. A fantastic season of predicting. More plaudits when I do the updates and eventually the final Leaderboard after the Stockport game.

I wasn’t up to the Gasroom after Saturday. On Sunday @railwaybeth and myself went with my sister and brother-in-law to Carrow Road, where they are season ticket holders to watch Norwich Women play their final game of the season against QPR Ladies. Norwich won 3 - 0, and included two first half goals in their display. Delighted to be able to cheer goals and a win, (I didn’t go to Bolton), but it was a terrible shame the flags were all the wrong colour.

I have only just realised that I myself was really quite close with my Orient crowd prediction, and it occurs to me that our team are in a much better position than I was and still. If I can produce a good result after a dismal season, our team cannot finishing the season in style remains a real possibility. The Stockport attendance prediction will be up soon. We are away from home this week but the outcome tables will be eventually completed.

Your rules as they stand are spot on @railwaysteve . I’ve had a low score go through too late this season (my bad) and another which I sent with no internet signal ‘on time’ that failed to land before cut off ($#*t happens). My Orient prediction will be a controversial one though: posted ‘after’ a post by someone saying it’s sold out but ‘before’ yours saying it’s cut off time. Maybe you need VAR for our next season predictions - in The Championship!
