Final Table - After the Stockport (home) game - Match 46
Tremendous congratulations to @wwfcblue who does top the Leaderboard at the end of the season with an almost unbelieveable average of 26.1 for the best ten predictions of the season. Four predictions under 20 and five under 25, The remarkable achievement was built without any single digit scores until the last but one game - the Orient Away attendance which was missed by just five.
Many congratulations to all of the top four - @DevC, @NewburyWanderer and @Commoner, who gave @wwfcblue great competition and all led the table at some point in the season.
@DevC took second place after being right there with a chance right up to penultimate game.
@NewburyWanderer just pipped @Commoner for third place on the very last game of the season, that margin was only a score of 1.7, thatâs 17 predicted persons over the whole season.
Only two forecasters had two single figure scores @Robin [Wrexham (a) - 8 and Bristol Rovers (h) - 9] plus @perfidious_albion [Northampton (h) - 2 and Bolton (h) - 8]
The best two individual predictions this season for the total crowd were misses by a single person. Many congratulations indeed to @NewburyWanderer [Pâboro (a)] and a pat on the back to myself [Orient (a)].
47 different individuals made predictions this season, including 3 supporters of opposition teams and @Manchesterchairboy, who doesnât seem to me to have made to Gasroom 3.0, but who enabled Chatgpt for the middle part of the season.
38 individuals made at least 10 predictions, but only two @DevC and @MindlessDrugHoover predicted all 36. Take a bow @DevC and @MindlessDrugHoover.
Finally a round up of some special achievements reached on the last day of the regular season.
Congratulations to @Glenactico who made it into the top half of the table and the Sub 100 Club on the last day.
Congratulations to @our_frank who made a giant leap up the table to finish in the top twenty, a personal highest position of the season on the last day.
Congratulations to @Erroll_Sims who struggled with form early in the season and also reached a personal high point right at the end of the season, Not only that but between @Erroll_Sims and @ChipsintheAdams was achieved the only dead heat at the end with the pair of them tieing in 25th place with indentical final scores.
Apologies for the various mistranscriptions, mistakes, delays and general bits of fun. Please always let me know if you spot one or think you spot one. I hope you all enjoyed it. I certainly did - I can sense the degree of thought that goes into some of the predictions.
I might get it together to put up threads for the semi finals / final, but anyway the plan is to be back next season - hopefully with lots of sell out home crowds in the Championship!
Excellently run competition as usual @railwaysteve . Thanks mate. See you next season!
Well done @wwfcblue and many thanks @railwaysteve for running this again. Always adds a bit of extra interest to matchdays.
Thanks @williwycombe and @NewburyWanderer. Iâve been trying to win it for years but fallen just short a couple of times, my luck was in this year.
Hats off to @railwaysteve and @railwaybeth for running this competition, itâs a highlight for me before and after games though I sometimes donât get the time to post or forget, hence only 41 guesses this season.
Not sure I will ever get anywhere near 26.10 again, I had a lot of luck this season.
Looking forward to next seasons competition and seeing what changes might be made.
Congratulations @wwfcblue in a great win and thanks @railwaysteve for running this competition.
I may have to change my strategy next time - early season wildly wrong guesses so I can show improvement as the season progresses.
The club have just announced a fantastic increase in attendances of around 8.7% from last season to this.
I donât know for a fact but I suspect the vast majority of that increase has come from away supporters and was hoping you might have our cumulative attendances for home and away fans at AP in the last two seasons. No problem if you donât and I would have checked myself but all the data has gone since we lost the old gasroom.
Enjoy your summer.
Just a question about tge impact of matches where no prediction is made. This is the first season I have entered, I missed acfew match predictions for variou reasons. How do you deal with that.
I add my thanks to those already expressed.
This is where i may have a mild gripe in the comp.
Im pretty sure i predicted every match⌠pr only missed 1 or 2⌠i felt it was possible for ppl that made much less predictions to finish higher than ppl that predicted every match⌠lol⌠i still enjoyed it though and im not putting myself forward saying i could do a better job ![]()
Hi All,
I have just given the Gasroom a serious look for the first time since the end to the season.
Firstly thanks to all for kind words and suggestions. For those posts since the end of the season - Back in June @wwfcblue made a good point about attendances being made up of both home and away supporters and an increase in a season of the total gate does not necessarily mean an increase in home support. I still have the individul sheets for the last two seasons, but it will be a learning experience for me to extract that!
@mwite and @Alexo, only the best ten predictions counting at the end of the season doesnât seriously disadvantage those who miss some matches and gives a slight advantage to those who predict every day or nearly every game - the majority of Forecasters miss at least one. I reckon it is easier to be accurate with some games more than others, particularly for larger attendances you can be close in percentage terms but hundreds out in actual bodies.
After a fair bit of reflection I will be running the 25 /26 Attendance Prediction Competition with the same basic rules, keeping the one hour deadline, and the very limited ability to alter predictions.
I deliberated on removing the total sell out closure clause, it is true that last season our own sell out crowd numbers seemed to be inconsistent and it was just as difficult to predict even when we knew it was a sellout. However whenever there is a sellout some information is known, and indeed the exact figure is theory known, so it therefore becomes less of a prediction game. All this considered I will keep that no predictions to count clause after my sellout post. I will keep an exception for changing opposition fans to Wycombe fans and leaving a total prediction unchanged for a partial sell out.
Anyway please expect soon a new General thread for the 25 /26 Competition, with the rules set out and a short personal plea from me. Also please expect a thread for predicting the seasonâs first game at Bradford.
Happy predicting to all.
Great news, it continues to be a highlight of each season for me and others in our group.
