A bit of History

Apparently the reason we are called Wycombe Wanderers and play in our colours is because of the following:

the club was named after ‘The Wanderers’. The Wanderers played in some of the earliest FA Cup finals in places such as the Oval. The club had a string affinity to Oxford and Cambridge universities where many of its players attended. The reason we therefore play in light and dark blue quarters is a nod to the colours of these colleges: light blue of Oxford and dark blue of Cambridge.

Does anyone else have any historical facts to help build our knowledge of Wycombe?

We once had a legend by the name of Trevor Aylott who would have fitted seamlessly into the way we currently play whilst only scoring 2 goals less in half a season than our £5m star striker, Kone.

The Woolworths on the high street once had a hologram of Brian Murphy from George and Mildred.

Having been burnt by the shots in the first half stat, I’m going to have to ask, is that true??

Apparently we scored a goal in the first half once.

Surely dark blue of Oxford and light blue of Cambridge!

Has this been verified in any way? What connection would mostly working class men in the chair making industry have with Cambridge university?

It doesn’t really explain why they chose the colours though. Perhaps they just liked them aesthetically?

I doubt we’ll ever know.

Sorry - stand corrected!

Has anyone got a photograph of the 1893-94 team photo. It would be interesting to see!

Given the tech, I wouldn’t be surprised if the team are still sat there now waiting for the photo to be taken
