A message from Jeevesie (Brian Jeeves)

Firstly, I hope everyone has enjoyed the summer and you are looking forward to the new season.

As some of you might remember, I wrote a piece on this platform explaining how, following a struggle with my mental health, I’d found solace in the Adams Park commentary box, describing the action, when available, alongside Phil.

I’ve found being around the football club extremely uplifting. I’ve met supporters who I now consider friends. Over a decade, Adams Park has felt, in footballing terms, like home.

I thoroughly enjoy what I do, and without making this sound too much like an ‘all about me’ post, I’m pleased to say I will still be doing my bit from the Bill Turnbull gantry, alongside BBC Three Counties Radio’s Sam Avery.

Of course, initially it will all be a bit new and different, although I have worked a match alongside Sam before (Bristol Rovers at Adams Park last season). Personally, I think he is one of the brightest up-and-coming football commentators I’ve listened to. I can’t wait to get going again.

Phil and I are still great friends. He has given me plenty of encouragement. But the overriding feeling, and factor, is that I think in some ways, Wycombe Wanderers Football Club saved me. And for that, I will forever be grateful.

I will be at Sutton United with Sam, looking over the new players. I hope to see you all during the season at some point. Come and say hello, and don’t ever underestimate just how special this little football club is.

Once again, Thanks

Hi Brian. Wishing you every success. I’m a BIG supporter of mental health as have (and still do) plenty of stuff going on within my personal sphere with friends and family.

Glad you’ve found solace with Wycombe.

Wishing you all the best.

At least there will be one face at Adams Park this season that we’ll recognise, what with all the new players.

Oh hang on, it’s radio. :man_facepalming:

Brian, this is the best news I’ve heard about the club so far this summer, so pleased to have you back. I always enjoy your co-comms and, as you say, Sam is a very talented commentator. I also think he likes the Chairboys more than he is perhaps allowed to show! The fact that you are both going to an away friendly shows commitment. You will be a great team.

Brilliant news! I was considering not renewing my Wanderers TV subscription this year but this has persuaded me to.

Absolutely fantastic news jeevesie, I was gutted that Phil left but hearing that you are staying on commentary has really given me a lift. All the best with your mental health btw, this news has certainly given me a lift.

Sorry to repeat the bit about you giving me a lift, I must have got over excited about you being on commentary.

Fantastic news @Jeevesie. I think comms without both you and Phil might’ve been too much.

Great news Brian and as you say Sam Avery an excellent commentator with a great future ahead of him.

Thank you for your post @Jeevesie , I am looking forward to the season and I hope that you might be able to give us some ITK scopes before they get released  (only joking)

Thank you for the work you’ve done so far and for those below freezing nights that you’ll do for us

That’s excellent news Brian.

Ha! Always enjoy your commentary. Excellent to hear you’re sticking around. Let’s make the commentary team better than ever.
