Firstly, I hope everyone has enjoyed the summer and you are looking forward to the new season.
As some of you might remember, I wrote a piece on this platform explaining how, following a struggle with my mental health, I’d found solace in the Adams Park commentary box, describing the action, when available, alongside Phil.
I’ve found being around the football club extremely uplifting. I’ve met supporters who I now consider friends. Over a decade, Adams Park has felt, in footballing terms, like home.
I thoroughly enjoy what I do, and without making this sound too much like an ‘all about me’ post, I’m pleased to say I will still be doing my bit from the Bill Turnbull gantry, alongside BBC Three Counties Radio’s Sam Avery.
Of course, initially it will all be a bit new and different, although I have worked a match alongside Sam before (Bristol Rovers at Adams Park last season). Personally, I think he is one of the brightest up-and-coming football commentators I’ve listened to. I can’t wait to get going again.
Phil and I are still great friends. He has given me plenty of encouragement. But the overriding feeling, and factor, is that I think in some ways, Wycombe Wanderers Football Club saved me. And for that, I will forever be grateful.
I will be at Sutton United with Sam, looking over the new players. I hope to see you all during the season at some point. Come and say hello, and don’t ever underestimate just how special this little football club is.
Once again, Thanks
