I was one of 480 at Holmer Green. MK were very clinical, Holmer didn’t deserve to lose by so many but they did tire towards the end.
I’m be 1 of the expected 400 plus at Penn
P&TG say around 500 sold already, book ahead to make sure of your ticket.
Got mine last night and will likely do the 15-20min walk rather than be lazy and try and dump the car anywhere close to the ground as it’ll be gridlock.
I wonder if any fringe first teamers will be given an outing…
Massive financial boost for a club of Penn’s level. Hope our club does the decent thing and waives our (to us petty cash) share of receipts
Penn say they have sold over 600 tickets, so it will be a record crowd.
PTGFC Chairman Nigel Miller is looking forward to tomorrow night. Nearly 700 sold, if you retain your ticket you can see any remaining Penn game this season at concession rate. Extra car parking is being laid on, food in the bar.
I’m looking forward to having a little look in Slade’s garage before the game.
The garage was set up by George Slade who also captained Penn & Tyler’s to the Wycombe League title in 1912.
Looking like they might just get 800 through the door. ![]()
Any commentary?
That was a good team, I remember it well.
Tonight’s Second Round results.
Flackwell Heath 0-3 Didcot Town (HT 0-2)
Winslow United 4-0 Wantage Town (HT 3-0)
Chesham United 4-0 Thatcham Town (HT 2-0)
Bracknell Town 3-1 Risborough Rangers (HT 1-0)
Binfield 0-3 Slough Town (HT 0-1)
Hungerford Town 2-1 Reading City (HT 1-0)
Abingdon United 4-3 Milton Keynes Irish (HT 3-2)
Newport Pagnell Town 4-0 Aylesbury United (HT 0-0)
I saw Winslow beat Hellenic One side Wantage Town 4-0. Initially, Wantage took the game to Winslow and had a couple of good chances to score first. They have a very quick striker, Luke Whelan, who caused all sorts of problems, worth a look. Winslow, one step higher, took control with goals on 26 (Scott), 30 (Freshwater pen) and 44 (Filler) . An entertaining first half was not quite matched after the break, Winslow adding a fourth on 89 (Rowe) . Unusually, given the score, I made Winslow keeper Jake Stronge POTM for five very good saves, to snuff out any chance Wantage might have had. A very good keeper at this level, he always plays well when I see him. About 70 watching.
Is the Freshwater, related to Graham Freshwater, whom we signed in 86/87 after impressing when Winslow visited Loakes Park for a B&B tie ?
Graham played a few games for the Capital league side, before leaving. I can’t recall him making a 1st team appearence.
Graham is Ryan Freshwater’s father. I think Graham played in Winslow’s 2-1 B & B defeat at Loakes Park in 88-89.
Edit - just checked www.chairboysarchive.com and Graham made 11 Capital League appearances in 88-89, as either left or right back. Son Ryan is a central defender.
Are tickets available on the gate?
Penn Chairman said they are
Got my first car from Slade’s garage. Morris 1100, 4846 PP (1964). £190.
I had a recurring dream for many years that I’d taken it in to Slade’s for repairs, and never collected it. I’d go back after a year or so, hoping it was still there.
I think I heard Charlie doing the comms on Wycombe Sound last night for the U21 game mention he was going to be there but not sure if that’s comms or not but try Wycombe Sound later, might be on.
Looking to set off from leafy RG7 at 6.30, hopefully some parking left close by and not sold out when I arrive! Are these non league games better than trips to the likes of Stevenage, Northampton and Reading.
Entirely subjective. I suppose it has the novelty factor and it’s very local for most. A few years back I saw Chalfont thump Franchise’s boys in the B&B. I think it was 8-0 or something ridiculous. Do not underestimate the hunger of semi-pro footballers eager to teach the ‘big’ teams a lesson.
