Bucks County Cricket Club

It was a joke as it’s on a football discussion site!

Cricket weather has arrived at last and if you want some local cricket tomorrow, Sunday, Bucks Women are playing two T20 games against Staffs at the National Trust property Ascott Park, Wing LU7 0PT. First match at 11am, free entry, I think you need to buy a garden ticket to use the Tea Room. I will be there for my first Bucks Women’s match.

Coming from the south, after leaving Wing, the visitor and cricket entrance is six hundred yards further on from the main entrance, on the right.

This is the last round of matches in the group phase, Herts host Cheshire at Hitchin tomorrow. The champions play the Division 1A champions in the final.

Tomorrow’s squad.

First match, Bucks put in by Staffs and off to a good start, 44-0 off 5 overs. They are playing without sightscreens. There are some here but not the required black ones.

Staffs 171-2 off 17.1 for a comfortable 8 wicket win in the first match. Ava Clive 75 n.o. and Megan Pittman 70 n.o. put on a superb 148 off 88 balls, taking advantage of some rather friendly bowling at times. The Bucks total was sub-par on this small outfield.

Second game underway. Cheshire beat Herts and are one point behind Bucks, Staffs are three points behind, so Bucks have to win this to finish top.

Bucks scored 171-7 in the second game. An excellent innings of 84 n.o off 40 balls from Tilly Fellows, including eight fours and five sixes, gives Bucks a chance.

Staffs won the second game by seven wickets, making 174-3, Lexie Cantrill with an explosive 92 off 47, Megan Pittman 57 off 36. Those two put on 125 from 60 overs. Bucks were out batted and out bowled and will be especially disappointed to have have only taken five wickets in two games, with two of those coming within a few runs of Staffs winning the second.

Bucks Blast adventure ends and Herts beat Cheshire by six runs in an exciting finish in the the other match, so Staffs top the table and will play Berks in the final.

A thoroughly enjoyable day at a very attractive ground, with enough trees to give good shade. I think Bucks Men last played there in 2003 against Gloucestershire but I can’t see them returning anytime soon. It’s a small outfield and there are no nets. I’m a Surrey member and go to the Oval a few times a season, but I get more enjoyment going to a local game like this.

Just Bucks Men in action tomorrow, when they travel to Beds for the first match in their T20 Group 3. The other four teams played last Sunday, Oxon and Berks sharing a win each at Wargrave, and Beds beating Wales twice at Sudbrook.

The match starts at 11am at Leighton Buzzard Town CC, Bell Close, Lake Street, Leighton Buzzard LU7 1RX. A new ground for me, adjacent to Leighton Town FC, Bucks Men haven’t played there since 1993.

Bucks were put in and made 164 all out off 19.2 overs.

Good crowd at Leighton.

Beds won by 7 wickets, 165-3 off 15. 1 overs.

In the second match, Bucks elected to bat and made 192-7 off 20 overs. A very good partnership of 107 of 65 balls by Rhys Nicholas (62) and Teddy Fleming (66 n.o.).

Teddy Fleming launches another of his six sixes, into the Clipstone Brook.

Bucks won the second game by 107 runs after bowling Beds out for 85 off 14.2 overs. As comfortable a win as was Beds win in the first game. All six bowlers in the wickets. About 200 here enjoying a good day’s cricket. The outfield was a bit too small for T20, several delays for lost balls, and it was uneven and rutted.

An interesting little postscript to the Bedfordshire v Bucks. The Beds players shirts were sponsored on the sleeves by Real Bedford FC - the noisy neighbours next to Bedford Town just off the A421.

Two quarter-finals tomorrow, Sunday.

Bucks Men host Berkshire in the NCCA 50 Over Trophy, at High Wycombe CC with an 11:00 start. This should be an entertaining affair, matches between these two are always hard fought. Incidentally, 11 of the 12 in last week’s Bucks side at Beds have been part of Bucks Pathway, proof that the coaching scheme for youngsters is working well.

In the T20 County Cup, Bucks Women travel to tier 1 Lancashire who are the current holders. This will probably be Bucks Women’s biggest match ever and quite a challenge. Venue is at Neston CC, Wirral, on the bank of the River Dee. This is a single game starting at 14:30.

Bucks v Berks scorecard and live stream.

I’ve got the date wrong for the Lancs v Bucks game, it’s in two weeks time.

Berks made 308-5 off their 50 overs, James Isbell 83, Charlie Dunnett 77.

Bucks all out for 184 of 39.5 Berks won by 124 runs. Out batted and out bowled by a strong Berks side.
