Where will the mighty Chairboys finish in the 26/27 League One campaign?
Best of luck to you guys this year, you’ve been so close on so many occasions so let’s hope this is your year and who knows we could have all the Wanderers in there the following season?
Right now, I’d say 7th to 10th, but that would certainly change to play offs if we bring in a big, strong experienced ACTUAL centre forward. Doesnt need to be a 20 goal a season man, just any proper striker
Heart says play offs, head says 7th to 10th.
Get a striker we will do well , considering we had a terrible start last season I think the playoffs is a strong possibility.
I think most people over the summer (not all! not all!) get pretty myopic as we hope for the best from all our signings (Tezgel has all the attributes to be a 20-goal striker etc etc) before the cruel reality of seeing them face off against opposition teams who have also, away from our beady eyes, strengthened their teams and addressed last season’s weaknesses.
None of our new players materially change the narrative in the way that Morley did in Jan. They’re pretty much like-for-like, maybe a slight upgrade in a couple of cases, a slight downgrade in a couple of others.
Unless something drastic happens on the transfer market or with the club’s coaching, I predict we’ll be bang average this season - by which I mean, finish twelfth.
7th to 10th unless we quickly sort the striker situation out.
I find myself less and less optimistic about the coming season. The nature of the defeat to Stevenage suggests we’ve struggled to improve on our major weaknesses from last season. This leads me to wonder if Duff is the man to take us forward. But of course, if he’s not, i have precious little faith in the OG to appoint a good replacement.
Blackpool will be a good test, they’ll have similar ambitions to us this season, and will think of Saturday as a good oppotunity to lay a marker down for a successful season.
This is a big part of why I’ve gone for 11th - 16th, though I don’t think it’s necessarily a Duff thing - I think we’re still missing the old character test. So many times last season the players who looked like they really wanted to win were the players who predated Rice’s player clearout.
A recent Duff quote I saw was along the lines of “I want the players to be fit, organised and disciplined. The football comes second”.
Hmmmm…
Extraordinary voting: we’ve had a mass outbreak of reality!
I dont think we’ll ever get promoted under this chairman amd recruitment team
This post coming from you, a generally optimistic poster definitely gets the alarm bells!
I’ve gone 7-10th but more the lower end of that scale unless we either get “the striker” or if it all amazingly ties together well.
But we simply don’t seem to have done enough in the window to a squad Duff himself suggested are too nice and not enough in the character department!
Does Dave Tarpey have kids?
Couldn’t quite muster up 7th - 10th so I’ve gone for 11th - 16th. But I think we’ll come 11th.
If we don’t buy a 20 goal striker, appoint a manager who knows how to get out of this division, give the freedom to excel to some skillful exciting attacking young players (whilst demanding they never make naive mistakes that prove they aren’t ready for this level) sign a smiley goalkeeper who can play out from the back whilst keeping clean sheets and make sure they gel as a team to get us back to the Championship where historically we belong, I will be very disappointed.
Come on lads and lasses, show a bit more appreciation for Wendover’s gentle satire!! Molasses as well.
Eric Plant, you old devil you !!
It’s the same post he always does.
I think it’s cumulative. And don’t forget that I’m at an age when I can watch repeats without realising that they’re repeats.
