On tv, watched Rivals. Great fun, not for the prudish, and not to be taken seriously.
Hope you enjoy it, Im going to see Metallica a few weeks later at West Ham’s Ground with @Will_i_ams for both nights
The late great Mike Peters was also fronting Big Country as well as the Alarm not to long ago. One of the last time’s I saw the Alarm was at the old Zodiac venue on the Cowley Rd in Oxford. The support act was the original guitarist Dave Sharp, who performed some Alarm songs in a more folky fashion. The Alarm came on and were fantastic.
The Alarm were the band at Freshers Week Manchester Poly Student Union 1983. They were good. I think went 68 guns through my whole grant on cheap beer that night.
Also a Manchester memory: I saw The Alarm at UMIST (now part of Manchester University) the year before in 1982. Played pool with a couple of the band members who were hanging out in the student union bar before the gig. Good lads, really friendly. They were fairly well-oiled by the time they hit the stage that night.
Went to see them at Brixton Academy Xmas 87. Drove there, parked somewhere dodgy and walked to the Academy. No one there! It had been cancelled due to Peter’s being blinded by a spot light at the previous gig. Drove home. Saw the rescheduled concert a few months later.

Situated above the fantastic newly refurbished High Wycombe Social club. This club is open to members and non members and quite popular amongst Wanderers fans. And probably the cheapest pint in town with the exception of Spoons.

Boards of Canada release a new LP after 13 years.
It is Boards of Canada perfection
It is rather good. I hadn’t come across them before (the cultural lost weekend of having kids at ‘that age’) but it’s been heavily trailed on 6 music over the past few weeks which allowed me to explore some of their earlier material. Well worth it.
And whilst the list of things wrong with the modern world may be long, it still seems miraculous and magical that I can do that instantly with nothing more than a few movements of my fingers (Siri doesn’t speak to me anymore)

Also had the pleasure of seeing Macy Gray live in Leeds last night (wonderful old music hall venue I never knew existed).
She is an amazing singer and an even better live performer, full of wit and humour

Loved the track that brought her to prominence all those years ago and she cropped up on Jools recently, looking a bit wobbly. May have been an old repeat.
I saw Cowboy Junkies a few weeks ago. There’s something rather lovely about a band who have stayed together for so long and prioritise their integrity and making people happy over great fame and fortune.
Also rather lovely was Margo Timmins drinking several cups of tea during the set.
