Former WWFC Footballers

I’m pleased he’s still in the game. He can still do a lot of damage at that level if he stays fit.

“O’Neill argues that man-management, more than tactical tweaking, remains the essential ingredient defining the best coaches. He is sceptical of the reliance on data and modern tactical trends, which he suggests make some teams more willing to take risks in their own penalty area than the opponents’ box.

Reflecting on the grip data analytics exerts over football he is scathing of discussion around expected goals. For O’Neill this metric “is total nonsense. You’ve got to remember what the game is about: winning football matches, and that means scoring goals, not recording the expectation of them. ‘Expected goals’ have only come about in the last few years. It’s a clueless development. Some people just use these words to try to sound clever.”

He summed up everythat that frustrates me about modern football in a sentence. What a man.

And don’t get me started on the cutting slits in the socks brigade!!

Or the tiny shin pads that do nothing to protect a players leg!

Clever words, spoken by inadequate coaches who hoodwink people to give them jobs at Championship and EFL clubs.

Dodds spectacular failure may be a shot in the arm for traditional football managers and coaches.

The end of the day is nigh for glorified PE Teachers like Dodds and Shuttlebum.

Can only imagine the carnage that’d cause down park level games, where players don’t quite have the ball control or actual self control!

Though I dare say you can run quicker than the 1990s monster ones we used to wear.

Imagine the pushback on here at Martin’s comments if they’d been made a couple of months ago?

From memory we started winning games when he stopped talking about it.

As they all do. And yes, I thought Blooms was being an arse when he went on about it too. The good news is, that wasn’t all he had in his interview repertoire.

Apparently Russell Martin told his MK players he would not be outcome obsessed as well. Obviously, it’s a coaching thing.

Also may not work in the short term…

I can understand saying that in the short term when you are working towards a way of playing, and you have the faith that playing that way will bring results if you get it right. Problem is though that you have to get it right before too long. Fans are notoriously impatient in modern football, so you have to start caring about outcomes sooner rather than later.

Matt Butcher scores for Salford at Bristol Rovers. 0-1.

Adam Reach puts Lincoln 1-0 up at Peterborough. Earlier I watched a bit of red button FA Cup football with Jack Young part of the Farnborough side up against Westbury United.

Aaron Pierre sent off playing for Eastleigh for foul play.

Was there ketchup involved?

Anthony Stewart signs for Kettering Town. He went from one of the best defenders we’ve ever had to Kettering in quite a short space of time. Wonder what happened.
