Former WWFC Footballers

I didn’t realise, until I looked today, that Bournemouth captain Adam Smith played three games for us in 2009, on loan from Spurs. Unfortunately I can’t remember him at all, but he must be OK, if he’s still playing in the Premier League nearly 16 years later.

I must have seen him play, but it was a brief loan spell in what was an absolute dog of a season - not only relegation, but relegation watching Peter Taylor grindball for a fair chunk of it - so perhaps I’ve blocked it from my mind.

I don’t remember him either, maybe it wasn’t just his hands that were invisible

Think I remember him playing at Charlton, first game of the season, we lost 3-2 with Zebroski getting both our goals.

Stuart Lewis doing well on the coaching front:

The young coach making big waves at Tottenham and catching the eye of those in the game - football.london?

forget Rory, anyone know how Tommy Mooney got on at the golf day?

As soon as I typed the club posted a highlights video of the golf day. Was I dreaming the bit about Mooney being there?!

Jack Wakely has announced his retirement from football due to injury. Very good luck to him in the future.

Awful news about Jack Wakley, I hope he is able to stay in football in some capacity

Max’s new team play in the second leg of the Europa Conference League quarter finals tonight. I notice he’s only made three starts this season, hopefully being back home has compensated for the lack of action.

Nathan Bishop is playing regularly for Cambridge, exactly what he needs at this stage of his career. Wheels and Gape seem to be doing well at Shrewsbury, it’ll be interesting to see if they stick around for next season.

He’s played 5 games this season including against Ajax in Europe, also in 2 reserve games. Not played for four months now and the back up keeper for the first team.

Can’t see them over turning a 2-0 loss against Betis tonight

Yeh, he had a brief run in the team after their slow start to the season, but that’s been it.

Sulley Kaikai with a late winner to keep Cambridge’s season alive.

No idea where to write this but it is a serious question that I would appreciate people’s opinions on.

We are getting a new black Labrador puppy in the coming weeks, and we have been trying to think of a name for it feels like months! Last week, when we first went to choose him I idly turned the TV on while waiting for my wife and there was Akinfenwa, chatting to the Sky cameras with his usual enthusiasm and charisma after our most recent play off final. In surprise, I said ‘Bayo!’ and it stuck in my mind that whole day. Bayo as a name actually means ‘to bring joy’ which both typifies what he brought to Wycombe Wanderers, and also what we hope a dog will bring to our lives. Suffice to say that by the end of the day, it just felt Bayo was the right name, and my wife loves it too.

But, the question is, is it ok to use? I have to be honest, I hadn’t given it much thought myself, but On further reflection we don’t want to be disrespectful in any way to the legend that is Bayo, or be seen to be racially insensitive in any way as that would never be our intention. I would be very grateful for people’s genuine thoughts and if the general consensus is not a positive one, we would of course try to think of something else…

Thanks everyone.

PS - a GREAT performance and 3 points today!

Personally I hadn’t thought of the “potential racist” angle until you brought it up. As such, I think it is a great name for your dog. :man_shrugging:

I know someone whos kid had a gerbil named Bayo, the police never turned up. Think its fine and a great name, its sort of a shame and a sign of the times that youre even having to think about it like that. Id go with it.

I havent been arrested yet!

Absolutely, I honestly hadn’t thought of it like that until my other half’s parents asked about it, but then again everything we do in their eyes is not good enough! Thanks for the feedback so far, it helps

If your in laws think it’s a bad idea you should definitely do it.
