Will de-Havilland and Max Muller in the same defence was like stopping a burst damm with tissue paper.
Poor Muller never had a chance as Hayesy and others had set him up to fail by saying things like we “can’t believe we’ve got him” as if he was a modern day lower league Beckenbauer.
Stuart Lewis will be back at AP at the weekend, having been appointed first team coach at Ipswich.
11 years since he left when was still only 27 and ended up in non-league, maybe my memory going but I remember him as a very decent player, can’t think why he didn’t stay in the football league? (Apart from obvs answer of lack of offers!). Can’t remember who was getting ahead of him in the team in 2015, maybe Bean?
And also forgot he first came to us on loan from D&R which seems crazy looking back on it now that they didn’t want him!
To quote the late queen ‘recollections may differ’. Lewis was skipper in that terrible league two side that was almost our footballing nemesis wasn’t he? His obvious ability as a successful coach was never manifest on the pitch in my eyes at least. I am reminded of a game when standing on the rail of the Beachdean side next to an injured young Kortney Hause, for the upteenth time the forward momentum stalled as Lewis received the ball in midfield stopped and passed it sideways. My “oh for f^*€k sake Lewis”, was met by Kortneys’ reaction “youre not wrong mate” which I took as affirmation that indeed I wasn’t wrong. Kortney went on to play in the Prem, Stuart in lower league.
As a caveat I should acknowledge that one of my (many) issues is that as well as having a blind love of one player per season, I also have a, perhaps irrational, frustration with one player, often not shared by fellow fans. It was Lewis back then, it’s Grimmer now (ok no need to pile in in defence of Capt. Jack I accept the issue may be mine not his).
Lewis had developed tidy enough feet from his Spurs upbringing. But he was totally vanilla in what I personally consider a drab period in our history.
Towards the end of his Wycombe career, things turned pretty dark and perilous, pretty quickly.

He made a great impression when he arrived with some really committed hard working displays.
But then went from captain to not even getting into the team almost overnight.
But our quality swiftly rose at that point.
I think it was Stuart Lewis debut at an evening match, where he was lucky nit to be sent off. He made a crunching two footed tackle, when the noise from the opposition players shinpad was excrutiatingly loud.
No doubting his work ethic but definitely in the solid if unspectacular category for me. That said, he was part of a promotion winning team, won a couple of POTY awards, and was made club captain by GA. So what do I know 
.
The late noughties/early 10s was all a bit meh to me but coloured by the fact that I moved away for a bit of that time so wasn’t as connected to the club.

Many of us had written off Lowry but he came on and did a few bits in the build-up to Well’s winner. From what I’ve seen and heard about Lowe’s short time in Edinburgh, he still looks raw and is finding his feet. Whatever you think about Scottish football, Hibs are a bigger fish than us and this afternoon he was expected to lead the line in front of 17k fans who have been on the turn since the end of last season. Hopefully a great learning experience and not a career stalling soul crush for young Nathan.
