Couhig asset stripping here we go. Gutted at losing Phil - he’s arguably as important as some players we’ve had.
Absolutely disaster. What is happening at our club? Will Matt Cecil be the next? Wish Phil all the best for the future and thank him for for all his contributions. I bloody hope he doesn’t end up at Reading.
I first met Phil on a train going up to a Carlisle away game where he was commenting for I think BBC 3 Counties Radio. From then, whenever we met he was friendly, affable and always time for a chat about anything and everything football related.
Over the years Phil has made a huge contribution to the development and reputation of Wycombe Wanderers and he is going to be sadly missed.
Good luck Phil, thank you for everything you have done and best wishes for your future whatever you decide to do.
What doesn’t quite add up here is that Phil accepted the role of President of the Official Wycombe Wanderers Supporters Association a few months ago when Harold Lunnon stepped down. I hope he moves to a higher position in the media and is still able to retain that role (as opposed to going to Reading etc).
Off to the biscuits?
Thank you Phil for everything you’ve done to be that constant bridge between the fans & the club. Your commentaries & interviews have been well planned, thoughtout and put the fans first!
Wish you all the best for the future moving forwards
Very upset with this. Phil is a legend, and I wish him nothing but the best. He has always been a delight!
Can’t help but think there is more to this than meets the eye. I was literally just saying (to echo @thedancingyak above) to a fellow supporter that Phil leaving would be a disaster, and here we are.
Irreplacable. The voice of Wycombe has gone silent.
I am pretty sure the ‘more to this’ would be ‘double your money’ at Reading - the perks of a trip to Louisiana. As he is probably not on a lot of dosh it would be foolish to say no.
Very sad news for Wycombe supporters, especially those of us who live further afield and have been kept connected by Phil and his band of co-commentators. I guess this means goodbye to Brian Jeeves too, which is equally disappointing.
Had the pleasure of guesting on Ringing the Blues and very much enjoyed the 45 minute ‘warm up’ with Phil, which was essentially just talking about gigs, music and characters from the business.
Not hugely surprised though. It was obvious Phil enjoyed the free hand offered to him under the Couhig regime - it can’t have been easy losing engaging characters to interview like Rob himself and the likes of Luke Leahy who were obviously stood down by the Ricicles.
I guess we can expect a suitably corporate, on-message replacement, as befits our increasingly bland club.
Best of luck to you @bluntphil - it was the best of times.
So JJ’s confirmed, Phil is expected, and other former back room staff rumoured to be arriving in Berkshire soon.
Say what you like about Rob Couhig but he can’t be too bad as a boss.
Goodbye and good luck @bluntphil .
WW3, nuclear brinkmanship and Club turmoil is one thing, but this is very upsetting.
Whenever I hear ‘I’m here to contribute…’ I will think of you in Luton/Reading/Gillingham.
God Bless You.
Would it be too heinous to at least listen to Reading while watching Wycombe? Asking for a friend.
True, but our owner is much richer than Reading’s, so there is still an argument that we could/should have made him an offer. So even if Phil is not upset about the past season, there is surely an indictment on our new regime anyway if we either didn’t make him an offer, or couldn’t offer him enough to make his lifelong club as attractive as Reading?
Everything’s an indictment against our owners to some.
Agreed but Couhig sold up due to health reasons and left us in ‘very good hands’ so the whole thing is starting to stink somewhat
Head of communications sounds like a bigger job than the one he had with us. Sounds like the 2 jobs we have rolled i to one.
But that may be 2+2 and equalling 5.
Can we not derail this thread please? Share your theories or ill-feelings on another one
100% going to Reading , what a lovely bloke Phil was excellent at his job, at the end of the day he was a fan and loved the club . This is on Couhig you can’t blame it on Rice or the new owner, will be very difficult for Phil especially against Wycombe.
