Goodbye Phil

Just seen Phil Catchpole’s tweet that he’s leaving Wycombe - https://x.com/bluntphil/status/1937582600144703654/photo/2. This is really, really sad news. As much as Gareth or Blooms, his presence personified the identity of Wycombe in a momentous era.

He’s also one of the very best commentators I’ve ever heard and often made me properly laugh out loud.

All the best Phil. Wycombe won’t be the same without you.

This is a huge loss. Phil will prove irreplaceable. He’s been a vital link to the club for those of us who can’t get to games.

Massive loss. No question, but mostly want to wish him well. Has simply been brilliant commentating and cheerleading for the club. Always a pleasure to bump into on travels and at our Gasroom meet ups a few years back. Changing times…

Big loss to the club and I hope it’s his choice rather than being eased out. Let’s hope he’s not replaced by data-led AI…or an unknown Dane.

Geeze he will be missed, he’s commentary over the years has been absolutely brilliant. But he’s one talented man. A future in tier 1 broadcasting awaits him I’m sure.

Thanks Phil

Very sad news, but hopefully whatever the next step is, is a good one.

Truly gutting. Thank you for everything Phil. The soundtrack to so many of our incredible moments - and he was bloody hilarious throughout our less exciting moments too. Right up there with legendary status as much as some of the top players we’ve had. A Wycombe legend. Committed an obscene amount of time, travel and research to keeping us entertained and never seeking the limelight. Top bloke. Thank you so much.

Absolutely gutting. I rely a lot on Wandererstv in my current phase of life, so losing Phil hits harder than anything else over the last year. Thanks for everything Phil - you leave massive shoes behind you.

What are the odds he joins Reading on a free transfer?

Phil managed to entertain us when there was literally nothing happening on the pitch. His banter with Jeevsie was priceless and he will be sorely missed. Good luck for the future Phil.

I can’t imagine how they could ever find a replacement as knowledgable, passionate and joyful.

Really disappointed to see Phil leave his role. I do hope it is his decision and a career choice. Phil’s commentaries, podcasts and compèring of events has been excellent, second to none and really part of what makes Wycombe Wanderers Wycombe Wanderers. So many great memories. Hope we will still see you at games in the future. Very very best wishes

Absolutely gutted. Replacing Phil will be the toughest signing of the summer.

I’m sure I said it, but I certainly thought, that I would be more worried about the club if either Phil or Matt Cecil left the club. (More so than even Matt B. The media arm being the voice of the club etc and then being replaced by ML/Rices men would be a shift away from the “two of us within the club” I liked)

And, well, here we are.

Thanks @bluntphil - your commentary has always been excellent and Ringing the blues was a must listen every week. Whatever you move onto, I do hope it’s a step up for you and your career.

Must say, I was a little worried something like this was coming when the recent signings were all interviewed by Matt, but reasoned it was because you were enjoying a well earned break.

Thank you once again, just no “Ringing the Royals”, yeah?

LOL I was waiting for the first suggestion of mischief . I think you will find in time thant Rice is not lucifer .

Am I the only one who’s thinking the guts are being ripped out of our club?

This is as big a loss to our identity as losing MB or GA in my humble opinion.

Matchdays will never be the same.

Good luck Phil, your talent will lead you on to great things I’m sure.

This is terrible news, such a fantastic link between club and fans. Can only wish him all the very best in whatever he does next.
