Kone 2.0?

He didn’t seem too impressed with us from the comments he made after his trial. Although that was under the previous management so who knows.

Didn’t sound like they were very impressed with him either.
Should have hundreds of clubs looking at him with that record. For nobody to take a punt is strange. But he’s still young enough and maybe someone gets a bargain.

Makes you wonder what happened or was going on behind the scenes for them just to release him…?

I heard they weren’t particularly impressed with him and then put him at full back or wing back as an acid test with his attitude. He did not pass the test. How reliable that is I’m not sure, just what I’d heard.

I saw a long interview with him about six months ago and he came across well - very honest about what he saw as his limited all round skills. The impression was that if he was played “up front” he would always deliver the goods but, if you asked him to play anywhere else, he was not the man you were looking for. That, I think, was the reason his trial with us was unsuccessful.

Extraordinary really.

Interesting but ultimately you have to be extremely good to be given that completely free role at a league team, like Adel Taraabt at QPR, Merson / Prosinecki at Pompey where you know everyone else can just defend and if you give him the ball he makes something happen. If your football brain isn’t very good you probably won’t be on the end of the right balls, can’t just come out of non league and goal hang. Talking down the trial is something he might regret, Rumours of bad attitude are enough to stop someone taking a punt. It’s fairly rare someone does a Vardy or Kone anyway, far more squad fillers from non league who end out back out on loan and released.

I went to school with Dan Burnell, erstwhile striker at the likes of Chesham and Slough. Scored a hatful of goals for both. Had a trial at Crewe, not sure if we looked at him. Good player and very athletic from a young age. Sometime it’s not your time, your best day, or something isn’t there. Fine lines.
