Those who’ve followed local non-league football for a while will notice some high calibre veterans in the Ris’ squad, including Aaron Minhas and 38-year-old Bradley Bubb, who was prolific for Chalfont and Beaconsfield many moons ago.
Speaking of veterans, Ben Herd was playing for Hertford Town against Flackwell Heath this afternoon at the age of 41. I can’t say I particularly remember him but he must have been to Adams Park a few times as he has hundreds of football league appearances for Shrewsbury and Aldershot. He still looked tidy enough at that level, Flackwell won 2-0.

Passing up the pleasures of Blackpool, physical and virtual, I strolled along to see Winslow United beat Royston Town 3-1 in the Southern One Central (sorry @AlanCecil).
The Crows were relegated from the Southern Premier last season, the Ploughmen were making their home step 4 debut. Three years ago there were three levels between them. Royston had won their opening two games, Winslow had lost their opener at MK Irish on Tuesday.
Town scored first, Cemal Ramadan poking home from a corner. United equalised before HT with Ty Deacon heading home an Aaron King cross. King scored the second with a header and Deacon scored the third in added time, beating the keeper to the ball to slot into an empty net.
In a fairly even match which ebbed and flowed, Winslow showed a bit more guile and commitment. 185 enjoyed the game on a mostly brown pitch, which was perfectly playable.
Apparently so. He was on the bench for Risborough today, replacing Minhas on 45mins.
All three of the Bubb brothers featured quite prominently on the local scene in the 2000s (and got capped by Grenada). I think Bradley is the youngest and only one still playing.
