Local Teams Football

Hope it’s OK to resurrect this thread in the new world. As the non-league season comes to a close there’s a fair bit happening involving local sides.

Maidenhead need a minor miracle to ensure a ninth consecutive season in the National League. Four points from safety with only two games remaining, the Magpies’ nearest rivals found form at the right time while the Berkshire outfit could pay the price for patchy form throughout the campaign. That said, their final fixtures come against woeful Ebbsfleet and at home to a Boston side that may have already secured their own survival.

Both Chesham and Slough are clear of the drop heading into the final weekend, with the Generals set to finish above the Rebels no matter what happens on Saturday. Understandably, the bonkers six-way (?) final day title race has grabbed plenty of attention on social media. Chesham could well have a big say in proceedings when they travel to sixth-placed Dorking.

Slough Town v Hampton & Richmond Borough

Marlow were relegated yonks ago and will be glad to get their long trip to Tiverton over and done with. Maybe they’ll have a knees-up in Devon to drown their seasonal sorrows. The hosts could well be joining them if they win and other results go their way to avoid relegation.

Flackwell are guaranteed to finish third no matter what happens elsewhere on the final day. They travel to face a Stotfold side that also has nothing to play for so expect a 0-0 or a 5-5?! Aylesbury United will end their middling season at ‘home’ to Enfield in another dead rubber with Beaconsfield Town’s home game against Ware another non-event. Thame United host runaway champions Real Bedford needing a 13-goal swing to make the play-offs.

Risborough Rangers survived the drop by a single goal, thus ending what’s been a tough season on a high. Their survival was only confirmed after this evening’s 2-0 win for North Greenford United over Wembley, a result that put NGU into the play-offs at the expense of Burnham. Bit strange to have one pivotal game take place after everyone else had concluded their campaigns but that’s the nature of non-league, I guess.

Third-placed Amersham Town will presumably face fourth-placed Harefield United in a play-off semi. Holyport’s play-off charge eventually fizzled out as they finished in eighth position.

Windsor & Eton romped to another promotion, winning the title with 104 points. Penn & Tylers Green have assembled a decent side at Step 6 and will fancy their chances in the play-offs, having finished the season in third-place. Keith Scott’s Holmer Green finished a creditable seventh having had a nightmare last term, and they still have a cup final to look forward to at the end of the month. Chalfont St. Peter managed to scrape by, four points above the drop zone. However, no such luck for Windsor FC. They ended up a point adrift but no idea if they’ll get a reprieve from the doldrums of Step 7.

Maybe someone can help update as and when local play-off fixtures and dates are announced.

Flackwell vs Barton Rovers or Hadley is on Wednesday April 30. Kick-off 7.45pm. Imagine they’ll get a big crowd.

Elsewhere, Amersham Town v Harefield United and Penn vs Eversley & California both listed as 3pm kick-offs this Saturday 26 April. Perfect if you can’t make Orient or need to get out of the house for whatever reason…

Chesham went to Torquay and beat them 2-1 and cost Torquay the title and automatic promotion. Even a draw would have been enough for them to top the table.

In a roundabout way! Well done to Truro. Soon to everyone’s favourite National League away day I’m sure…

A bad day all round for Bucks. Amersham Town lost their play-off semi 2-1 to Harefield United in front of 315 at Spratleys Meadow. Town were 1-0 up until the 84th minute.

Penn were also 1-0 up until late on in their game, before going 2-1 down and then nabbing a 96th minute equaliser. Eventually they went down 4-2 on penalties.

Chesham didn’t play Torquay today.

Chesham didn’t win today (they lost at Dorking)

Torquay did win today (4-1 at Hemel)

Oops!

Truro’s title is a remarkable achievement in their first season back playing in the town after playing “home” games in recent seasons hours away in Torquay and more recently Plymouth, Taunton and even Gloucester.

Truro and Carlisle in the same division next season.

Free pie and a pint and maybe a medal for any away fans at either fixture next season.

I was almost right, just got got the Sky page up for 5th April by mistake. You retain your title of Mr Clever Dicky!

Jake Tabor finished on 51 goals from 47 games in all competitions. League only, 45 from 38. That’s a grand total of 127 goals in the past two seasons.

Surely he’ll go for that summer move now…

Good luck to Flackwell Heath today, in their play-off final at Berko.

Good luck to Maidenhead who need to beat Boston at home and hope Wealdstone and Dagenham lose to stay up today.

Uxbridge promoted to the Southern Premier. Could be a good side for the Academy to link up with due to the proximity to Harlington

Even though Maidenhead won 3-0, Wealdstone also won 3-1 leaving them in the bottom 4 & relegated this season :sad_but_relieved_face:

How did the game go at Berko?

Flackwell lost 5-0. Had a man sent off quite early i think. Nearly 2000 there!

Thats a real shame but it’s been a cracking season for them and hopefully one they can continue building on for next season
