A club that was in free fall, to be fair.
I think bitter disappointment would be stretching it a bit
Wherever we end up his season I think most fans would end it looking forward to next season with genuine optimism and excitement
We were.
There is no such thing as a relegation battle after 12 games
Nonsensical to even suggest it
Now now boys.
Such a weird expression.
We certainly were and things started to look a bit dodgy to say the least.
There are scenarios where people are in a relegation battle after 12 games.
Team who have had significant points deductions - Sheff Weds this season.
Covid or another issue stops the season and PPG is needed to be used.
Whilst both could be considered rare events, they are not non sensical.
Looking at the table after 12 games, you could “discuss” whether anyone from 13th down was looking likely to be in a relegation battle after 12 games, as they had 14 points. 12th sitting on 17 you could argue were less likely to be involved.
Of those 12 teams, two of the bottom four are still in the bottom four - Rotherham, Blackpool - 50%.
Three teams are in the top half - Wycombe, Plymouth and Reading - 25%
Two teams who were not in the bottom 12 now are - Mansfield / Doncaster
Teams from that bottom 12 who are still in a real relegation battle after 38 games:
8 out of the current bottom 9 - Port Vale, Northampton, Rotherham, Blackpool, Wigan, Exeter, Burton, Leyton Orient are at real risk of relegation 26 games later. That’s 75% of teams in the bottom 12 after 12 games are still in a relegation battle.
Whilst 25% have moved away, I’d say it is reasonably sensible to wonder/discuss/claim you maybe in a relegation battle after 12 games, if 75% of clubs are still in that battle with 8 games of the season left.
It would be interesting to see the stats over a few seasons and not just this season.
as I said, nonsensical
We and the Posh have had similar recoveries after the 1st 12 games. We have 44 points from our next 26 games and Posh have 42 points from their next 25 games.
We are ahead on PPG - don’t tell Swanny!
