Underrated pick: Norris, very commanding, had little to do but when called upon, he was brilliant. McNeilly, He will break into the Forest Squad one day.
Actual pick: Boyd-Munce, One absolute Purler of a goal and held the anchor brilliantly
Casey for me, the man was immense.
Thought I’d gone with a niche choice here with Abbott, but I am pleasantly surprised to see a big chunk of you with a similar view. I thought he was excellent at knitting together a big gap between central defence areas and the rest of the huge pitch tonight.
Could have easily have given it to Abbot, CBM or McNeilly, but Norris did absolutely everything asked of him from a distribution point of view and he was very composed, if not, obviously not tested. Kind of going with heart over head on this one as it will be a confidence booster for him and gives Duff something to think about as clearly, for the rest of the week, Duff is going to have ‘good’ problems for team selection for Wimbledon.
I would certainly pick Norris on Saturday.
Interesting. I’d certainly pick Van Sas. Seems to split the Gasroom! My view is that Norris is so erratic for a goalkeeper so senior. I’m still wound up by his non-existent weak right foot. His box management was good tonight. Going more direct means he isn’t as fallible for playing out, which he struggled with big time under Dodds. I thought he could’ve been at partial blame for a goal or two pretty easily in the first half tonight despite Wigan posing very limited threat. I can see why people disagree though. Thought it was one of his better performances, aided by the Duff platform of playing more direct and in opposition half.
I think Van Sas has the potential to be a very good keeper. Hes not perfect, nor is Norris though. He should have the chance to continue getting better.
Yes I also think returning to a more direct (normal) approach to games will suit Norris. Norris has made mistakes but to be fair, so as vanSas.
Interesting to see what Michael Duff does regarding the goalkeeper selection though.
Can we rejoice at having two decent keepers or does one have to be crap?
Abbott was excellent again - his work rate is superb and his technicality very impressive for this level. Anders again showed his class and Casey an assured and understated performance. Lowry cameo superb as always.
Norris, Anders, Casey and Abbot all had a good night and would all make a good claim to the Saturday team. Boyd M scored an excellent goal and nearly a better second. Although he showed a lot for the ball he looks to play it safe too much for me
For scoring his first senior goal and for showing he’s already more than just a kid Mcneilly gets my vote. I think by January he could be a regular starter.
Interesting Norris was captain though, so I imagine he will get the nod to start in the next game.
Could the best of the lot currently be playing in scotchland?
I think this is because there were no outfield players that had been here for over a year and it could’ve meant constant faffing around passing the armband round trying to find a fifth, sixth or seventh in command. Grimmer and Leahy are clearly the captain and vice. Then you’ve got another senior pro and ex captain like Scowen out of action etc. goalkeeper captain removes outfield ambiguity
Yeah. Norris was also captain for the Bromley tie. Fred captained for the O’s first round game.
McNeilly was brilliant and looks class he really could be an outstanding player for the rest of the season if he is given the chance to start games,i would have loved to see a front 2 of him and Kone they would have scared any defence.
