I think it’ll be September.

Do you remember
The 21st night of September?
Rice was makin’ a list of pretenders
While chasin’ the Dodds away

Tricky clue from The Sun crossword this morning…

1 Across: Shit Wycombe Wanderers boss (4, 5).

Going to have to get some of the ‘Down’ clues to narrow it down a bit.

Or Tony Adams.

Or…

Worth highlighting the pattern and just a note that, when we’re next recruiting, whenever that may be, to be wary of names like Paul Warne, Dean Smith, Alan Swann…

Matt Bloomfield P23 W8 D5 L10 F26 A34 / 35%

Tony Adams

Crikey. And that was before we were ‘on the wane’ under Bloomfield.

The stat that repeatedly jumps out at me is the goals scored one. Exact mirror of his time at Sunderland.

What’s the common denominator?

We scored 21 goals in 10 league games in November and December 2024.

Since 1st Jan, we’ve scored 26 goals in 30 league games (including play offs).

Since 1st April 8 goals in 14 league games.

Goals are not a problem…I think they might be Mr Dodds…

Just for a bit of context as to where we are in terms of bad runs, I thought I’d revisit the nadir of Bloomfield’s tenure - his “17 game winless run” [direct quote from a post on Gasroom 3.0].

In fact it was 1 win in 17 league games, with 6 wins from 7 cup games across the same period (although 5 of these wins were in the Bristol Horse-punchers Trophy, still probably relevant as they led to a Wembley appearance and probably gave him some credit during the darkest days).

Anyway, the period from 1st October 2023 - 31st January 2024, covers 26 games, which will make a handy comparison after Saturday’s game.

Bloomfield’s nightmare run record across this time?

I think it’s also worth bearing in mind how many games we conceded an equaliser deep into stoppage time during that run. I seem to remember it was just about every week for a good month or so.

And if we were conceding stoppage time equalisers then we were:

A) Scoring goals

B) Scoring goals first and thus going into the lead.

How long have we led for this season? About 3 minutes out of what 470 minutes including stoppages!

In the league (and playoffs) we’ve led once, for 39 minutes, in the last 9 matches or 810 minutes.

Blimey. Don’t suppose you have the number for Dodds entire tenure?

I can find it out easily enough - there are so few goals and wins that it’s easy!

Just to say I’ll include a goal in stoppage time as 1 minutes regardless of when in stoppage time it was scored. Otherwise it’s a bit more difficult.

Has Doddsy said that goals aren’t a problem?

If so we might have another one for the all time quote list to go alongside “that goal changed nothing” and “don’t worry about the money”.
