Marlow Road training ground

Thanks for the info

A few days ago, I met one of the workers who has been working at the Marlow Road Training Ground. From what he’s been told, the club will be moving the 1st team back to that location from the 1st July. A number of reasons were mentioned but the main one was the concerns over the Heathrow. The planes taking off & landing were making it difficult for the players to listen & follow instructions as they couldn’t be heard. Another issue that could / will come up in the future is that the expansion of the 3rd runway will take away at least 3 of the pitches available at the venue.
This is why they will be keeping the venue for the rest of the lease but that site will be only for Youth / Academy football, 1st team matters will be managed at Marlow Road going forwards.

That explains so much!

So it doesn’t matter that the academy kids won’t be able to hear any instructions. So much for a top class Academy!!

Still think first team training will end up at half of Bearwood but suspect that would not start until 26/7 season.

I think the club will end up taking over Reading’s youth system as RC will be looking to reduce their out-goings.

Pardon?

Did you get the looks?

One of the issues apparently is there is only 3 showers or similar , so with the level of players not nearly enough.

Easy to miss the worlds 2nd busiest airport next door I suppose.

Anyone give Harlington even a quick glance before signing the lease? Bizzare.
Btw is Marlow Road still owned by the collective who foreclosed on us at the first sign of financial trouble?

Without wanting to get into the whole largest v busiest airport debate…

Because Heathrow has five terminals it never seems as big/busy as it really is - meanwhile Istanbul airport feels enormous (like a small town, the size of Wycombe, in fact)

largest is dammam in the ksa. Busiest is atlanta.

I’ve used the dammam airport and it is well shit.

As is Atlanta.

It would be ironic now though if a glider at booker airfield had to do an emergency landing on the new training pitch halfway through a training session

Or a shanked shot at goal / goalkeeper kick out of their hands, hits an aircraft and it bounces into the opposite goal!

Wonder if they’ll make Norris train at Harlington due to the risk of one of his passes taking out a light aircraft.

Slightly off piste but relating to the aforementioned goalkeeper, a Charlton supporting mate rang me this morning to apologise for not having been in touch following the 4-0 League defeat, saying that he didn’t want to appear to be gloating. I assured him that few of us would regard beating the current iteration of Wycombe Wanderers as particularly gloatworthy.

With one exception, he diplomatically refrained from singling out particular players for criticism. The exception was, yes you guessed it, our shy, error-prone, fan-shunning (interview shunning?) first choice goalkeeper.
