Fink comes from the Swiss league, arguably second only to Brazil for footballing talent.

Do you know what, Iām actually going to agree with @Chairboys80 on this one with regards to Fink. Although I think he is not good enough from what Iāve seen and will go without making much/any impact, we have spent around Ā£1 million on him which is a huge outlay so it would be good to see definitively if he is good enough on a match day. Give him 5 consecutive starts and if we are still seeing the same player after those 5 games, we will know for sure he isnāt good enough.
I have several reasons for this.
I donāt think weāll be anywhere close to going down with such a savvy man in charge as Duff, and we are certainly not good enough for the play offs. This is a season of shuffling the squad to Duffās liking (I hope) so we can start strongly next season.
There are some things I have liked about Fink. Yes, he looks lethargic and a bit slow, but he has tried to play some intelligent lay offs but just looks too rusty/frozen with apprehension to get it right. He also gets into good areas for a striker to score goals, something in general Woodrow doesnāt do at the moment.
Some players are just not as good trainers as others, and are better in a match. Maybe this is the case with Fink, but he must have something otherwise Duff would not have picked him to start a match last week. Duff has said himself you have to earn starts.
The most important one for me - some players need a run in the side to get match fit/sharp and show their best. The most notable example was Curtis Thompson, who would come back from injury and look like a complete clogger in his first game or two. By game 4 or 5 he was at his energetic and brilliant best.
Yes, itās unlikely. Yes, itās clutching at straws a little bit. But given the season as itās looking, and the fee we paid, I think we can afford to try it for 5 games.
We are 3 points above the relegation with at least 3 of the next four games looking very tough. Far too early to assume we are immune from relegation.
Duff may turn out to be a great manager for us but really needs to prove himself on the pitch before being anointed to that status. Never too high never too low.
He is a good manager by track record, who has, to date, proved himself well on the pitch for us. We have improved immeasurably since he took charge. 5 points from 8 games (29 points across a season) from Dodds, then 20 points from 12 games (77 points across a season) from Duff. Thatās not even mentioning the style of play and attacking threat in general.
Yes, we have a tough 4 games coming up, but then we have 20+ games left after that. We will not be going down, or even be close to going down. 10th -14th would be my guess depending on January.
I would suggest that, for the next training session, Duff takes the squad to a local dairy farm.
All the players could then be issued with a banjo, and the 11 players who can hit a cowās arse the most times with the banjo, are pencilled in to the starting XI for the Bolton game.
Why canāt he simply go out on loan to a lower league team in January and see if he can do it there. Surely thatās a better option than āguaranteeing him 5 continuous games with usā regardless of how he performs in those games. Why are you suggesting this idea only for Fink and not the likes of Lowry, Westergaard, Tilley etc?
Of course he could go out on loan, but Iād rather see him given a chance here for a few reasons. We paid a lot of money for him and he plays in a position where we are very short of quality/numbers. If he isnāt good enough in these games, weāll know we have to invest in a striker in January.
Westergaard has had plenty of chances and Iām satisfied hes not good enough. Lowry is technically good enough for League 1 in my opinion, itās consistency and the ugly side of the game he struggles with. I actually think a loan to work with Ainsworth in League 2 for 6 months would be hugely beneficial for him. Iāve watched Tilley enough for us and in League 2 for Wimbledon to know heās not good enough.
But at the end of the day, itās just my opinion!
Last 5 league games:
DWDLD (6 points); GF: 4, GA: 4
Last 5 league games home:
DWWWL (10 points); GF: 12, GA: 6
Last 5 league games away:
WDDDD (7 points); GF: 3, GA: 2
I agree with the current squad I donāt think weāll go down. January is key though, itās been done to death on here but the recruitment last 2 windows has been dreadful. Appointing Duff indicates the OG have learnt and are willing to adapt so Iām hopeful this is also reflected in the type of player they sign in January.
Iām not hugely confident over the next 4 games but if we can nick 6 points that would put us in a decent enough position going into January.
Not sure Westergaard has had 5 continous games and cost big money. However, I agree heās not good enough as is Fink who has actually had quite a few minutes on the pitch. I think both need binning, but as you say that is opinions. The cost of signing them should not have any relevance in whether they get selected or not, selection should be based solely on performance and ability.
Going on what I have seen, I agree that both are not good enough. Fair point re Westergaard and wouldnāt actually be against him starting 5 consecutive games, but the trouble is heās in a position where we are stacked with players. I think we all agree though that the fees involved are scandalous for such (far below) average League 1 players - just really hoping Duff has a big influence/final say going forward in transfers as he knows football inside and out (particularly compared to Rice and Stockwell).
Fink reminds me of Berbatov. Not a player thatās easy to warm to - but damn effective when played to his strengths.
Saturday was awful, lucky to come away with a point. The difference from the game compared to port vale away a few weeks ago was alarming.
We didnāt pass the ball, create much and looked shite.
Surprised to see Lowry starting, and not Surprised to see him hooked at half time, but could of been a number of players.
The kids had a good day out and we always enjoy going to Burton. Big game Saturday but not expecting much, a couple of Kirkby lads and good Evertonians are in charge of Bolton so will catch up with them before the game. Going to set off early and arrive in Wycombe for about 10am, going to leave the game early to get away from the ground and beat the traffic and hopefully get back and make the Everton v Arsenal game at 8pm.
This comparison is brilliant lol. One player was elite, the others a cart horse.
If we play him in 5 games irrespective of whether he can kick a ball or not, then we could be risking relegation. We need a proper CF!
he is the closest to a number 9 that we haveā¦..
Remarkable how thatās been allowed to happen. Itās quite sad really, this time last year we had Kone, Vokes, Fred, Sadlier, Bez and Hanlon as an interchangeable front 6.
Now we have Fink and Woodrow.
I actually thought of Berbatov too, but unfortunately just in height and hairstyle.
Absolutely none of the exquisite control, technique, heading ability or shooting.
