Match Day Thread: Burton 13th Dec 25

We’re in as midtable a battle as they get.

Our good form was seemingly reliant on goals from our wide forwards. They are naturally erratic. So when off it, we don’t have another option. We definitely need to freshen that position up. Im not seeing anything in Junior

Just needed your positivity. Thank you.

Only 7 points off 6th.

Not when we’re 12th, But the new year might see a change

17 year old was Burton’s man (boy) of the match. Where is Cameron Stones?

Yep. But theyre injured. I’d have hoped after all the money spent, we’d have more options for the most crucial position, than two players.

Just looking back, when he was fit, he played a fair few games, especially before Christmas. Not every game, but he wasnt a bit part player.

He was probably 4th midfielder and always in if one of Scowen or Morley didnt play. I would guess if Scowen was fit now, he probably isnt regular starter either.

He was a squaddie and wasn’t getting in what was an incredible midfield for us unless one of the 3 needed a rest or was out.

I suspect he’s midfielder number 1 - but we’ll see when Scowen’s back if that’s correct or not.

But it’s upsetting going back to the convo of how we’ve downgraded so wildly across the pitch, so we best not!

I think he is in as we don’t have a scowen type player, and we really need on. But if we did, he probably doesn’t get first name if everyone is fit. But..im not sure I’d have him in the first 11. But I don’t have an idea what our best 11 is.

Current record is 6-7….7 (one for the kids).

Will we have more wins than defeats at the halfway point…?

The thing is, we saw last year that Scowen doesn’t even need to be the deepest lying player.

So maybe we’ll use Leahy as the Morley role, and Scowen and Hendo in front.

We’ll see soon.

But one thing for sure, Duffy’s honeymoon beginning has worn off and now the real quiz begins.

At least we scraped a draw…

But it was overall a fairly lethargic, disjointed, uninspiring performance, from which (again) very few players emerged with much credit.

The only positive from that match is that I really like how Burton have mandated that all their pitchside advertising boards are in two tone gold and black. Looks really classy. Obviously Sky Bet ensured the effect is slightly ruined by retaining their colour scheme for their three boards, the losers.

I think I side more with Chairboys80 than the rest of you. I don’t think Michael Duff is turning out to be the Messiah, though he does occasionally look like a very naughty boy when smirking on the touchline. Let’s see what he can do in January. I’d like to think he’s playing a clever Machiavellian game of making bang average players look even worse on the pitch in order to win a campaign to get rid of them all and bring new ones in. Sadly I think it’s more because he’s not quite got the nous required to make them into a semblance of a decent side.

We absolutely will not be signing 6 or 7. I reckon 1 or 2.

Agree. A January squad overhaul would be rash. Rare to be able to get a large number of high quality players in winter transfer window. We need a couple of players that can improve the spine of the team and keep us out of danger, then let’s see what we need in the summer.

then we are screwed if we have to rely on the useless Woodrow and weak midfield

I can see more outgoings then incomings, but I would not be surprised to see us sign a fair few. 10 out 5 in, but the 5 in need to improve the starting 11. Hopefully Duff has a big say on things
