Match Day Thread : Charlton

That would be an amazing stat if it was even vaguely true.

The irony is 2 wins will probably get us up (Wrexham wont beat Charlton). But we arent capable of winning at Orient who are chasing playoffs. Just preparing for playoff disappointment already

Some understandably emotional responses in here. Obviously, that was a stinking afternoon to be a Wycombe fan. Imo, the result itself really isn’t a disaster. That was probably the hardest fixture we had in our run-in and it would’ve taken a brave prediction to say we’d win today - Charlton are the best side in the league since January and bang in form. The worst part of today wasn’t the 0 points, but the 5 goal swing which means we can’t rely on our GD any longer.

For me, I still believe we can do this, even after today. I’m so confident that Charlton team will beat Wrexham on Saturday. We play at 12.30 and they don’t play till 5.30. If we can get a result at Orient, that puts all of the pressure on Wrexham to get a win against the best side I’ve seen all season..

We’ve shown in recent weeks that we have it in us to grind out results. We haven’t scored enough goals under Dodds (which I don’t think anyone can dispute) but up until today, we’ve been defensively superb. If we can play like we did in the 2nd half of the Bolton game in our next 2, I really believe we can still get 6 points.

We love to hate him, but huge credit to Nathan Jones. He’s turned Charlton from mid table fodder in November to the best team I’ve seen at AP in a long time. If they do finish in the play offs, I’d be extremely confident they will win them. Let’s hope we (and they) can do enough in the next 2 weeks to push us over the line.

Absolutely on Dodds this. When I saw the team I wasn’t totally against it. I understood the thinking to keep it tight in the first half. But when you’re 2-0 down after 20 minutes your game plan is in tatters. Why no change then? As a minimum, Onyedinma should have come on for a defender at that point.

I can just about understand waiting till half time to change. You can have a good reorganisation at the break. But still no changes then. A manager/head coach’s job is to make changes when things are not going well. How on earth was that defensively minded side going to score two goals? I’m sorry but the complete shocking management here has to be a sackable offence.

Sackable offence?! I think some people need to take a breather.

Could be taking a bit of a chance playing the Charlton lad with two left feet.

Absolutely abysmal today. Forget tactics and formations, we allowed ourselves to be bullied and out-muscled and didn’t give anything back. Doesn’t matter what the formation is if you do that.

Can’t spend any time feeling sorry for ourselves though. There’s every chance Wrexham will lose to Charlton next Saturday and we need to be able to take advantage when that happens.

Huge game next Saturday, that’s all that counts for now. Any post-mortem can be held at the end of our season, whenever that is

Dodds is in post to keep the 1st team ticking over whilst the academy is established. League 1 is fine for that, even league 2 , I doubt ML even knows what division the 1st team play in, but I guess he has to have an active 1st team in order to run a pro football academy.

Absolutely. From the very first minute. I’m less confident in Charlton doing the same to Wrexham though, I can’t imagine their players rolling over for a tummy tickle like ours did today.

This was a real acid test for Dodds (and by extension Dan Rice) and we’ve been found wanting quite badly.
Charlton came here with more attacking intent, executed their passing game better and were clinical in front of goal. They also played the ref like a cheap harmonica, but that pusillanimous cretin didn’t prove to be the difference between the two teams (as much as was seemingly itching to be). His turning a blind eye to the blatant fouling and wrestling of Kone all game was almost at David Laws (of Preston away 1999 fame) levels of willful incompetence.

We were second best pretty much all game and had no way back into the game once we’d gone two down. Charlton held us at arms length with relative ease.

Automatic promotion is IMO our only real hope, I can’t see us getting past the semis unless our penalties are much better than our general play in front of goal.

On an especially disappointing day, it really didn’t help we had those moronic ā€œwe’ve got/lost the ballā€ chants from a group of people who don’t seem to be regulars. Hopefully they’ll learn how to support a football team before darkening the door at our club again.

Picking the wrong team is a mistake. Not correcting it after 20 minutes is a mistake. Still not correcting it at half time is such a serious error.

I thought we were done at 2-0, My only disappointment was, as others have noted, no changes were made to improve attacking options. I understand giving the starters a chance to redeem themselves, but that’s for 1-0 down…2-0 and you need to get at them.

It will be easier to blood academy players in League 1 or 2 rather than in the Championship

I’m not disputing that Dodds made mistakes today. I posted at HT that playing Bakinson and Low was a mistake. But to call that a ā€œsackable offenceā€ when we’d previously won 5 in 7 is insanity. As I said earlier, some overly emotional posting this evening.

It went out of the realms of just a mistake when it wasn’t corrected. Everyone makes mistakes. Managers are employed to make crucial decisions. This was more than just mistakes.

If that’s your definition of sackable after a good set of recent results, I’m glad that I don’t work for you!

Sackable on any single decision or match is clearly OTT even though it’s infuriating but he’s certainly entering the realms of the new employee making some strange decisions and saying odd things getting eyes from the old stagers wondering what has come through the door. Will he come good, will he decide it’s not for him, will he pass probation, will he be given the benefit of the doubt for weeks, months, years? Who knows.

Comfortably the worst stats from a Wycombe goalkeeper this season. Or last.
People blaming Norris ffs.

You think Ravs was broken?

Sure, I’ll give it a rest. You are full of it though - I literally started a thread about why we should keep Dodds next season no matter what (and still believe it, as it would just be cycling through passive Yes-Men anyway until Rice is sacked).

Not sure what your issue is with me, but it seems pretty backed by the thumbs, so I’ll ā€œlet it goā€. Absolutely fed up with the fake positivity police on here anyway. I much prefer honesty.
