Match Day Thread : Charlton

Not necessarily, and I do think he was treated harshly. Until 2-0 down today when Norris made a Stryjek-style error do I think that him replacing Franco has had any detrimental impact on our points haul, though? No.

Desperately poor today, both from the team and the coaching staff. I suspect Charlton would’ve beaten us whatever XI we put out today, but the defensive line up played straight into their hands and backfired massively.

I still believe 2 wins will take us up though. Wrexham will put up a better fight than we did today, but I think Charlton are just a better team than both ourselves and Wrexham. We have to be more positive and on the front foot against Orient though.

He’s not the greatest shot stopper, but it’s become increasingly clear how important his distribution is and how it more than makes up for it.

Kone again on his own up front Wrexham play 3 =5=2 time for us to change and start attacking with support for Kone !!! or Dodds out !!

My concern is the only team we’ve been front foot against has been Shrewsbury.

The idea Dodds would attack a play off side away from home is for the birds.

In fact, I’ll be shocked if we manage a shot on target first half against them. And the fact that that’s not a hyperbolic statement made in jest is damning.

Apropos of nothing in particular, it’s good to see the grownups returning to the forum this evening. Most of the Gasroom 2 regulars were conspicuous by their absence during and immediately after that abject performance and the level of comments during the match had mainly been too crass to engage with.

I guess we’re all feeling a bit down this evening. I certainly am and the absence of the likes of Malone, Username123 and others whose usernames I’m already starting to forget, wasn’t helping. I’m not sure whether Atomic featured under a different moniker on Gasroom3.0 but I have warmed to him/her, not least because they talk a lot of sense, have taken on the MOTM thread during Shev’s break and are very generous with the thumbs !

Just popping in to mention the fact that @Shev had the biggest thumbs up to thumbs down ratio on the old Gasroom, both given and received. The most relentlessly positive poster over 10 whole years.

Mind you, we all know what ten years of loyal service gets you under the new normal.

In the interview Dodds doesn’t mention our inability to score at all. That is telling.
Someone needs to write on his forehead that you get promoted by scoring goals.

I noticed that. The focus on not conceding with no concern for us creating virtually nothing every game is worrying.

Apologies @CornDog. I thought it was Atomic that took on MOTM. Something else perhaps?

Atomic did the last one, I volunteered for this one so that Atomic didn’t have to do it while driving home.

I don’t think we should let me do it again though. Bad things happen.

Easily the best interview he’s done since coming here, in terms of looking like he’s happy to be interviewed.

Much as I like to shit on Dodds as much as the next poster, we did also lose to Charlton under Bloomfield and didn’t play much better then. I don’t blame Dodds for playing conservatively against such a strong team, though his selection was poor and his inability to switch things round worse. Fundamentally, we’re just not that good unless Morley is in our team and opponents give us space to play with confidence. I’ve been assuming we’re playing in League One next season since Shrewsbury. We just aren’t that good under Dodds. And worse - we’re just depressing to watch.

Never too high, never too low. Just mediocre.

Charlton fans absolutely slating Dodds’ analysis (quite rightly).

Username123 is now @TheRiceIsWrong - no idea where Malone is sadly, I dropped him an email but haven’t heard back. Hope he’s well and happy.

The only positive for me today, is I f*cked off after the 4th goal and got an Uber back to the station and travelled back to Marylebone without having to share the carriages with joyous Charlton fans.

Dear Dodds,

Please do the following next week.

  1. Start Lowry
  2. Give Berry 5 minutes at the end
  3. Kone

Cheers, ta

Lowry and Berry would be the last players id start at Orient. We need as much pace, power and determination as we can muster. Fred, Udoh and Simons are a must - the 3 Dodds took out today

I haven’t seen the goals again yet, but sitting in the FA today, for the first 10 mins or so I was thinking all Charlton had was thuggery and long balls. If that is what makes an excellent league one side then we’ve still got a long way to go. Why were the players complaining so much about the second goal? I was taken back to the number of similar strikes we’ve had in previous games (which mostly ended up going out of the ground) and thinking its not going to be our day.

All that matters now is can they get this loss out of their system and bounce back? We beat Leyton Orient 3-0 at our place, we are literally already in the play-offs. And I believe if we get 1 more point this season, we’ll be into record EFL points total territory! COYB’s!!!

It would seem Caleb Taylor picked up a bad knock late on. Hopefully that’s not the end of his season.
