COME ON WYCOMBE!

Let’s hope the Imps are the Beach Boys today. And let’s see who steps up to stake a claim for next season. Customary ‘Fink hat-trick incoming…’. COYB.

If we’d beaten Bolton, and held onto a few other points here and there, missing today would be unthinkable.

Instead I have to confess I’ll be at the crucible, for the afternoon session.

Can’t see anything other than a convincing win for the imps. Shades of going to the Kassam on the final day several years ago, hoping we’d piss all over Oxford’s party, only to get thumped by a far superior side.

Fair play to Lincoln though. I hope that we have our data team looking at what made them work so well as a team, including the more intangible mental attributes.

What worked for Lincoln this season is they weren’t obsessed by nonsensical data, they didn’t play exclusively the way that “elite” uefa coaching courses tell you have to play, they played to their strengths and with team spirit and heart. I think the way they have played is akin to the way Matt Bloomfield’s Wycombe played in the last quarter of 2024.

They recruited to win the league. We recruited to win the XG and stats rankings!

Not on Sky Sports+, think I will give this one a miss today. Looking forward to the trip to AP next week, but time to enjoy the sunshine and give my Missus a break from me endlessly banging on about Wycombe.

Are you getting good vibrations about this one?

I find this interesting. They signed the experienced players we know about, abd then players with little experience of league one football. Something people said we didnt do. They added to some experience in the squad, though experience gained at Lincoln.

They also appointed and stuck with a coach who had no managerial experience apart from a few games as caretaker.

Its all come together perfectly for them, but, i dont think they’ve done much we haven’t tried.

They did come 11th last season, and we may be 11th this season which may be a sign..

Aye. The tough thing to take is not that Lincoln did something different, it’s that their approach was very similar but somehow it worked.

They had a good run when the new guy took over, missed out on the playoffs by 2 points, on the last day, tgen only finished 11th last time. Obviously they stuck with him and this season its worked out.

They’ve not reinvented anything, they’ve just built steadily.

There’s absolutely no comparison between the recruitment strategies of Lincoln City and Wycombe Wanderers.

Last summer Lincoln City lost four key players (Paudie O’Connor, Sean Roughan, Ethan Erhahon and Jovon Makama), receiving c. £2.25m in transfer fees. They spent a fraction of that on Ukrainian under-21 midfielder Ivan Varfolomeev, whilst bringing in Adam Reach, Ryley Towler and Sonny Bradley on free transfers.

Last summer Wycombe Wanderers sold Richard Kone for ÂŁ2.75m and spent a third of that on a replacement Bradley Fink. They also spent another c. ÂŁ2m on Mikki van Sas, Connor Taylor, Dan Casey, James Tilley, Taylor Allen, Armando Junior Quitirna, Caolan Boyd-Munce, Ewan Henderson and Jamie Mullins.

Sonny Bradley has made more league starts this season than van Sas, Taylor, Tilley and Fink combined.

Towly was a reported 300k, and they signed a Urish for fir a reported 500k, and they signed they guy from Bromley in the winter, which i can’t see a price for, but would expect near 500k at least.

Lincoln have made some good signings, but they, have started from a more settked squad, with a manager in his 3rd season.

Fink plays!

With a midfield of leahy, Scowan, Morley. And Harris wide ( Duff, going negative away from home, shock).

If weve all watched the Fink clips, he needs people to link with. Who is breaking the lines?

Why wouldnt you play Henderson over Leahy?

Fink will be isolated, we will put long balls.

Already see it laid out.

C’mon Finky baby

I know this is a nothing game but really struggling to read Michael Duff. Why on earth does Fink play when you’ve been so clear on his status previously? Is he being forced to play him to try and get money for him in the summer?

Great though to see Scowen start.
