Match Day Thread: Northampton 2nd Dec 2025 (EFL Trophy)

Does the Gasroom love anything more than prematurely hyping up or writing off players?

Would’ve been interesting for that question to come up in the forum……so Dan would you admit you’ve made mistakes?

If anyone can get a tune out of these guys it will be Duff.

Bit harsh in Gregory who’s been very impressive in all his 1st team outings up until last night. Clear he won’t be seen for a while though, now we’re out of this competition, unless there’s an injury crisis.

Not sure even Duff could get a tune out of Fink on the evidence we’ve seen so far.

Northampton, of last night’s team 4 started and were 7 on the bench at the weekend. 5 more on yesterday’s bench started at the weekend also, only the goalkeeper of them didn’t come on. 16/18 in total.

Wycombe, 3 started & 6 on the bench at the weekend. 5 of the bench started at the weekend, 1 sub was also a sub again. 15/18

Far more balanced squads wise than I had thought and the end result/performance suggested.

As regards to Gregory it would have been by far the strongest lineup he’s played against, so a step up again for him.

Come on @Bobruislip. You can’t let this pass unchallenged?

The ā€˜Dan Rice’s great signings’ club have gone a bit quiet…

I’d forgotten we still have Abbott. If he comes back strong I think it’s Mullins back on the bench and can see him competing with Fred and Anders for player of the season (which will probably end up going to Leahy).

And I’d still have van Sas over Norris in goal. He was excellent on Saturday. One game playing behind reserves in a competition no one cares about should not decide his future in a Wycombe shirt.

Not sure I’d put Van Sas above Norris right now. Norris has looked very safe since Duff arrived. However Van Sas did nothing wrong on Saturday and deserves more chances to prove himself in the first team.

Westergaard is definitely the new Daryl Horgan. About 15% of people seem to think he’s the absolute nuts but I can’t work out what he does for 85 minutes a game.

It’s clear that some of the recruits haven’t been up to scratch and/or adapted well to the English game but you see that throughout Football. Look at Kevin De Bruyne or Mo Salah at Chelsea. They weren’t given the time or opportunity to settle, moved on quickly but then came back to the Premier League and blitzed it!

I’m not saying that Fink and Westergaard are going to do the same thing but look at how Anders has played this season and has finally settled. These players are human beings, Fink is only 22, and we have no idea what is happening in the dressing rooms or training ground or at their homes.

Another thing to remember is that most leagues in Europe have a Christmas break coming up, we don’t have that here and those players need to get used to that too.

It’s time to…

recall Berry

Hopefully Fink, a young lad in a new country who’s had injury problems is getting a lot more support from inside the club than from fans on here. I’m sure he is, Wycombe are really good at that.

I’ve seen more than enough from him to see that there’s a good footballer there. He’s only been here a few, injury-plagued months. He will come good.

So desperate for him to fail because that would reflect badly on Dan Rice. It’s really sad to see in all honesty

Come on son, he’s only young, new to the league, hasn’t had much of a chance etc, is ā€œambipedalā€ apparently too.

Don’t start all that again.

The ā€œknowledgableā€ types used to say he was magnificient at creating space, despite being an attacking mid who barely scored, assisted or had any sort of creativity.

I’m not a great fan of Norris, but to me he is a much better keeper than the errorprone Van Sass
I still don’t know why we sent Shamal George out on loan to a club arguably at our level or even higher.
Don’t know whether he’s on a season long loan, but I would like to see him back in January
Overall, as we suspected, we have acquired an awful lot of Deadwood for an awful lot of money. Fair play to Micheal Duff he’s making a silk purse out of a sows ear

Fink and Magnus are very poor. Fink reminds me of the lad we signed from Man utd a few years back. At least youd expect from him is effor, thats lacking too.

Have to wonder who recommend some of these signings, terrible recruitment.

Hopefully Duff will have a lot more say in recruitment etc..
